@joegrimer I was always a big fan of the #BBC as a world class and world leading #broadcaster. I still think that the BBC produces non-news programmes of the highest quality. The issue I have with the BBC is on their news and current affairs broadcasting which, in the past few years, has become more and more #biased. 1/4

I agree with earlier posters that funding for arts programmes via the Arts Council is an appropriate use of taxpayers money. Any other form of government funding inevitably comes with more government interference and is thus to be abhorred. 4/4

The way around this is independent of the funding argument. It is to remove government from the appointment process for all senior influencers in the BBC from the governors through to senior management and to give full editorial control back to the programme makers. 3/4

This issue is less about funding and more about editorial control. The BBC is now controlled by political appointees from the governing party. This inevitably means that the news and current affairs programmes are going to be slanted in favour of that party. 2/4

@davewalker An interesting point - a car takes up more space on the road than two abreast cyclists. The difference is in the speed that they travel!
