Is it just me or is #Mastodon very slow today? Or is it just #ClimateJustice?
So what, very broadly, do the Working Time Regulations do? What is their malign purpose? Well, ignoring the various complexities and exceptions, the answer is:
1. Unless the worker agrees in advance, they cannot be forced to work more than 48 hours in a 7 day period;
2. They limit the length of night shifts
3. They create rights to minimum periods of daily and weekly rest
4. They create a right to rest breaks whilst at work
5. They create a right to paid annual leave 4/5

Mastodon tips (brief)

7. Hashtags pretty important

10. Pin introduction post
11. Do some boosting
12. Follow interesting people
13. Hashtags can be followed too
14. DMs not secure
15. Be respectful
16. Thank you, people who run this

#Introduction I am a semi-retired 77yo UK migrant to Ireland, living largely on a £ pension in € land. Politically moving more to the left from a lifetime in the centre as a former capitalist with a social conscience. The increasing drift to the right evidenced by the UK government now showing fascist tendencies is driving me towards supporting Labour.

As one individual I am doing whatever is within my power and finances to combat climate change - I have planted 8 trees in my garden, installed solar panels, insulated the whole house, upgraded my boiler (though still oil fired), installed smart radiator valves, and smart switches on all appliances that could be left on by accident eg, lights & TV. Sadly, my house is too old for me to afford to upgrade to anything near passive. However, external insulation over the 2ft (60cms) stone walls, cavity wall insulation on the rest, have made the house warm and cosy.

I am constantly surprised to see new build houses without solar panels. Every new build should have solar panels and heat pumps as a matter of course. Even though in Ireland the sun doesn’t shines lot, I save about 1/3rd off my electricity bill.

I am also an active Toastmaster (www.toastmasters.org) with Blarney Toastmasters here in Co Cork, Ireland, and owner of a glamping pod to supplement my pension. Formerly I was an accountant, first in business and latterly as a professional accountant to owner managed businesses, and later a professional photographer, and part time filmmaker as DoP (director of photography).
