@adr Nope, just used the free version, which is quite good!
@adr I think part of why it seemed so straightforward was because I asked Claude "How do I build a kernel from source on Debian 13?" then just followed the directions. I didn't have to piece things together from various docs, blogs, forums, etc
@adr that's still an option, but I installed Qt and did make xconfig, mostly for the nostalgia. When I used to build kernels in the 00s, I usually went with xconfig.
I built a custom Linux kernel from source over the weekend as an experiment/learning exercise. It seemed easier and more straightforward than I recall from the early 00s, which is the last time I would have built a kernel from source. I don't believe the build process has changed much since then, I think I've just gotten better at Linux.
@adr people prefer all kinda of shit that's not in their long-term interests; that's not a great argument for doing it.
@adr Maybe less of an issue for those of us who remember a time before LLMs, but I do worry about the next generation(s). Sort of like the generation of kids in their late teens/early 20s who don't recall a time before the global media and political landscape was dominated by TFG.
@adr because it’s commercial UNIX?
@adr why? By all reports is *is* impressive and should strike fear in the hearts of all PC laptop manufacturers who’ve been churning out shit hardware even at the high-end for years. Even if you don’t like the Neo itself, it could pressure the Dells and HPs and Lenovos of the world to produce quality sub-$1000 laptops.
Trump’s address went well, I take it? Allayed everyone’s worries and such?
@adr like regular rectangular razor blades, or the trapezoidal ones? I have a couple folding utility knives that take the trapezoidal ones, one of which I believe is a Stanley
