I saw a MacBook Neo in the flesh today and I am angry at myself for how impressive I found it. I didn't use it or anything (this was at Costco), but still.
@adr what is there to be angry about? It's a BSD laptop with an arm chip for stupid cheap, it's literally the kind of carry-anywhere device we've been asking for for literal decades now.
@adr why? By all reports is *is* impressive and should strike fear in the hearts of all PC laptop manufacturers who’ve been churning out shit hardware even at the high-end for years. Even if you don’t like the Neo itself, it could pressure the Dells and HPs and Lenovos of the world to produce quality sub-$1000 laptops.
@mmccollow I don't like macos
@adr because it’s commercial UNIX?
@mmccollow if you could buy it and put whatever you want on it I'd be absolutely delighted

@adr I have a base, 8gb Macbook M2 for work as a 2nd work laptop - I need it for some Mac apps we work on. I love the hardware, I love the size, but even after using it for a bit, am not in love with Mac OS. I do a bit more than browse, people say it's fine, but I think it needs more RAM.

If the MacBook Neo had 16 gb of RAM, and Asahi ran on it, I would consider it.

Until then - will stick with refurb HP EliteBooks!
