Yes, yes, #xmpp leaks metadata. True. #signal protects them better, for sure.
But there is an important difference: Signal uses you phone number. Which is basically a direct pointer to your identity, hard to change, and used as a second factor in many contexts. Your #xmpp address doesn't have to leak anything about you and you need mere seconds to create new one.
