I have a website, but I last updated it in 2008... Might do something about that.

I exist as the person that I am because of my local library.

I would go there whenever I wanted to read books.

Books don’t just go away when you’re finished them, their words sit on your mind, to sink deeper and deeper into you, until they are a part of who you are.

Sometimes a very important part.

The possibility for change is anathema to people who insist they have had the whole truth already revealed to them.

We have fucked up Computer so badly, in that regard. Instead of building user trust, allowing for swift deployment of necessary fixes and new features that genuinely makes the user's life better, The Update has become something to be feared.

For pretty much anything with a connection to the internet, too; your mobile phone, your laptop, your television, your fridge, your car, your thermostat.

Everything you use might suddenly start showing ads. Or stop working entirely because whatever 'cloud' service it depends on stops being available.

Such potential, all wasted for more ad revenue.

Before I became a drystone waller I knew nothing about how walls were built, or by whom. That's the thing about drystone, it's everywhere, it's ancient, it's extraordinary, and most of us walk straight past it.

The very first Drystone Diary is live. What drystone actually is, how it works, and why it matters.

Drystone Diary - What Is Drystone?

What is drystone, how does it work, and why does it matter? From the physics of a wall to the ecology of its gaps, we explore drystone walling.

"In the Seventies, when my family first moved to this country, we were the target of those comedians. I don’t see a lot of difference between the racist and hostile jokes directed at my family by comedians in the Seventies, and the targeting of the trans community now. If you come from any sort of minority, marginalised background, we’ve all got to have each others’ backs. Prejudice is a contagion.”

Ahead of a new standup tour, the peppery comedian speaks to Louis Chilton about anger, punching down, and the state of British comedy – and he doesn’t hold back

Currently being paid 3.51p kWh to use electricity by @[email protected]. Our energy costs stay negative all day today. Charge the EV, finally tackle that mountain of ironing, washing the bedding and towels on a hot wash — all while Octopus pay us to take surplus green energy off the grid 🥰
@jonty In his book ‘At Home’ Bill Bryson discusses how lots of interesting endeavours and discoveries came from clergymen, largely because they were a well-educated, wealthy group of people with lots of free time. They only needed to do one sermon a week and many of them just bought a book of sermons, so didn’t need to prepare any of their own. (I couldn’t help but think about basic income during this section of his book!)
