I generally agree with both Zizek and Anton Jäger that deferring to the use of the term 'fascism' to describe current political events in the West is both intellectual laziness from the left, and also a sort of gentrification of the leftist political project of the 21st century.

If you look around at the unscrupulous actions of capital, you can see that capital does not perceive the current Left as a genuine existential threat. Ascribing the term 'fascist' to political enemies implies that the Left _is_ a political threat to capital, when, currently, it is not.

The return of a true militant Left that genuinely poses a threat to capital, will be the true return of 'mass politics' on the right, at which point things will resemble something more like the 20th century fascist movements to defend capital.
