@dcseifert listening to the latest Vergecast and your analysis of OLED vs XDR miniLED LCD screens is missing one key component: pixel response time.

Apple's XDR displays have worst-in-class pixel rise time (black to white) of 40-100 ms. This exhibits in smearing, even doing simple things like scrolling through a social media feed (worse in dark mode).

OLEDs, by comparison, have a rise time of <1ms these days.

So the ultimate improvement of an OLED over XDR display is in motion clarity.

Giving up on Mastodon for now. I'm old enough to have seen multiple social networks die, and Twitter has got a long way to go.

I gave it a solid try. But I see even the most hardcore "move!" proponents are still as active as ever on Twitter. It ain't happening, folks. At least not now.

Twitter
Lastpass, you had one job.

We're in this weird limbo where it seems uncertain if Mastodon is really going to take off.

Plenty of folks have started accounts, but even the most hardcore "everyone needs to move to Mastodon now!" evangelists still seem quite active on Twitter.

Not sure how a long-term mass migration is really feasible until this trend changes.

we've released rust-gpu v0.4 🦀🎉
https://github.com/EmbarkStudios/rust-gpu/releases/tag/v0.4.0

new official version for the first time in quite some time for building GPU shaders in #RustLang.

a lot of upgrades, bug fixes, maturity, and now supporting raytracing shaders!

we've been using this for over a year in production now for our Creative Playground & custom Rust engine here at Embark, and hope it can be fit for more developers as we continue to build it out.

I've noticed a frequent issue, where I follow people (especially follow-backs) only to come back later and it shows that I've actually NOT followed them.

Seems like something about the front-end UI is providing a false confirmation and not registering with the back-end.

Anyway, if we were mutual follows over at birdsite and for some reason I haven't followed you back here, please give me a nudge.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I think it would be incredibly productive for Mastodon to have an "easy mode" that essentially emulates the UI/UX of Twitter. I think a lot of hesitant folks would jump over with such a feature.

I got into 3D Printing last year, and have been having a lot of fun watching the hobby grow in its practical utility.

Printables.com just opened a new section of their site to serve as a home for brands (like Noctua) to share official free models for things such as:

* Replacement parts
* Adapters
* Accessories
* Modifications
* Decorative models

I hate it when things break, and love it when I can fix something. I hope this practice becomes common.
