It's wonderful that computer scientists and engineers are looking into applying AI in education, but educational technology cannot be discussed without genuine engagement with pedagogy/education theory. AI can be a great tool for transferring information but our teachers and schools do much more beyond that. Books are also an efficient way of putting knowledge into our brains, but you don't see educators losing their jobs to paperbacks.

After 3.5 years, I finally submitted my dissertation. I am looking forward to the viva and excited about what will come next!
Unfortunately the AI can only commit war crimes it was trained on it cannot invent new ones
shout out to paleolithic people for petting those wolves, you did us a solid
Technology laws like data protection may seem unnecessarily complex, but 90% of the time that I've heard people say this, its actually the technology and data flows that are unnecessarily complex. Typically due to an exploitative business model or confused / conflicted / contradictory institutional goals.

If I could make the rules, I would ban all #job postings that advertise a competitive salary without specifying what exactly it’s competing with.

A race to the bottom is, sadly, still a competition.

I’ve tried listening to Destroyer’s new #album and I’m not quite sure how I feel about it. Some songs are bangers, but most seem immensely skippable.

The upside is that I ended up playing Kaputt almost on repeat over the last few weeks. If you’re not doing the same, this is a good time to join me!

Seriously, what a timeless piece of #music.

When it came time to reckon with social media’s failings, nobody ran to the “web3” platforms. Nobody asked “can I get paid per message”? Nobody asked about the blockchain. The community of people who’ve been quietly doing this work for years (decades!) ended up being the ones who welcomed everyone over, as always.

I'm a philosopher of medicine and I also have a big interest in history of medicine and philosophy of new technologies. I tweet in English and French.

J'écris de la philosophie et de l'histoire de la médecine. Je poste des photos de mon chat.
