#Mastodon’s appeal has even attracted a few unlikely visitors: Twitter co-founders Ev Williams and Biz Stone both created accounts on Mastodon in recent weeks. 'I’m kinda tinkering with it,' Stone says. 'I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or what, but my #Twitter experience isn’t as great [recently]. I don’t know if it’s the people that I follow aren’t tweeting anymore or what’s happening.'

Please ignore these silly articles appearing about how "Mastodon signups are slowing down and many are leaving." I remember a big story in like Wired, or Infoworld, or something similar back in 2009 telling me that "Only 15% of Twitter users are active. Is the honeymoon over?'"

If the tech press were a bit more like @mmasnick, @jeffjarvis, and @zephoria, and a bit less like Bari Weiss, Tom Friedman, and Maggie Haberman, the Fediverse and society at large would be much better off.

OK, but what if I told you that anyone claiming that the #TwitterMigration was a fluke, and that #Mastodon is losing daily active users is just lying because they assume that the data to disprove their bullshit doesn't exist? I ask because the data does exists, and it's right here in this post.

The upshot of this dataviz is that, after a brief holiday break, the vast majority (>80%) of large and/or notable Mastodon accounts remain *very* active. A plurality have posted within the last 24 hrs.

I think my favorite use of emoji responses on Slack/Discord/etc is when someone just latches onto a particular word in a message and attaches its emoji, with no semantic content intended. E.g. someone'll say "Sorry, the bus is running late" and someone else will just slap a 🚌 on there to confirm that they did indeed notice and recognize the word "bus"

I’m still laughing about the latest 30 Under 30 scammer actually paying off an academic to do her dirty work. https://www.forbes.com/sites/alexandralevine/2023/01/11/jp-morgan-fake-customers-frank-charlie-javice/ Must be a true scholar because this motherfucker charged *way* too little for this level of crime.
