Terrible anarchist, editor, writer, history nerd, and other nouns in the Pacific Northwest bioregion and so-called Canada.
I mention communities here because otherwise this quickly folds into more rugged individualism: "to be a Good Citizen, you must have these core competencies." That's not what I want to encourage.

So many of us rely on the convenience of prepackaged internet services for the same reason we rely on prepackaged food: we either don't have the time or energy to devote to doing it ourselves (likely because we have to spend much of that time and energy on working to afford necessities), or we don't have the skills to do it ourselves (possibly because building those skills would require an investment of time and money, and as previously mentioned, those are needed for survival). You can't really break that on your own, because the stress of trying to live a life as an isolated individual is the source of the problem.

No one person can know everything. I don't know how to knit. My skills in house electrical work are basic, and in plumbing, minimal. There is so much out there to know and practice that I don't expect any human to be good at it all.

This can't be broken as individuals. We break it as communities, by sharing our surpluses and learning from others.
Update: https://social.veltens.org/@angelo/110643298577042397 Now all #twitter t.co links are blocked by twitter login. All #links we ever shared via twitter can not be followed anymore without signing in to twitter, no matter where in the #WWW they point to. Twitter put a gate in front of our links by "shortening" them and now they locked the gate. We never should have given them such power. #gatedcommunities #fediverse #web

Ok, false alert, sorry! After double checking actually most t.co links are working and also the #twitter archive contains a field "expanded_url" with the full URL! So the situation is much better than I initially thought. Thanks for double checking and making me aware @[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] et al. It is still a big risk, that twitter has the power to wall in those #links #gatedcommunities #fediverse #web

Just signed into Twitter to a feed of 'goodbyes' and 'where to find me online now.' None of the linked platforms have been the same though. This feels like the end of summer after senior year--you give out your new mailing address and landline, but you know in your heart of hearts that you'll never talk again.

Today is an epic day. I am applying to the Supreme Court of Canada for leave to hear my anti-SLAPP application against Proctorio. Please read my latest update! https://linkletter.opened.ca/stand-against-proctorios-slapp-update-31/

Stand Against Proctorio’s SLAPP – Update #31 | Stand Against Proctorio's SLAPP

I have signed the Anti-Meta Fedi Pact on behalf of Motley.

History shows us that large technology corporations like Microsoft, Google, and Facebook will only ever see open ecosystems as sources of value to enclose and exploit. I have less than zero interest in helping one of the chief architects of the modern Web's consolidation continue their efforts.

The Web is best when it's diverse, diffuse, and homegrown. Motley will not federate with any Meta instance, because Facebook is not welcome in my community.

Hello writers! My friend Lily is working on a second issue of this beautiful magazine and is currently seeking submissions from Indigenous voices in so-called Canada through June 20th! I'll vouch for how wonderful Lily is, feel free to share with your networks or with anyone who might be interested!

After another few days at camp, I'm adding onto this: I really believe there's going to be a boom in 'serious' underage violence--not just fist fights, but stabbings in Canada, shootings in the US. These have been a mainstay of North America, but kiddos and teens, as a whole, have a lower skill set to navigate 'negative' feelings; everything now leads to physical fighting.

If you have the capacity to work with kids and model good conflict resolution, the time to get involved is now.

Unsure how to negotiate the lack of reaction to this post--Public emotionality can be so cringe, and whiteness, as a whole, is so bad at holding public displays of grief.

It also feels off-putting to be vulnerable and met with silence. I suspect a lot of the small number of followers are simply busy with their own lives, which makes sense and is okay!

I'm just trying to figure out what is actually 'good' to post here and what expectations to have, especially when sad.

Thanks to
@jankwrites for these kind words: "Painting a hopeful vision of a postcapitalist future, Ulibarri's debut solarpunk novella, Another Life, is a masterpiece of minimalist worldbuilding with incredible emotional impact." Full review coming in
