Terrible anarchist, editor, writer, history nerd, and other nouns in the Pacific Northwest bioregion and so-called Canada.

We just had to put our sweet, frustrating, loving, barky, beautiful dog, Frankie, down. She had a particularly aggressive form of cancer; we had five days between onset of noticeable symptoms to the decision to euthanize. This is another reminder to keep your loved ones close as you can: Life is short and full of surprises.

Please give any of your beloved furry friends a pat for me <3

While walking in my Vancouver neighborhood, I saw my first Northern Flicker in months! With the #birdflu spreading across the world, I was scared we'd lost the breeding pair. Such a relief to hear them tapping about today!

The strain detected was H5N1, like the one that has been spreading around the world in the past year, killing more than 200 million birds.

The World Health Organization last month described the bird flu situation as "worrying" due to the recent rise in cases in birds and mammals and that it was reviewing its global risk assessment in light of recent developments including cases of human transmission in Cambodia.

Archaeological study of 24 ancient Mexican cities reveals that collective forms of governance, infrastructural investments, and collaboration all help societies last longer

Some cities only last a century or two, while others last for a thousand years or more. Often, there aren’t clear records left behind to explain why. Instead, archaeologists piece together clues from the cities’ remains to search for patterns that help account for why certain places retained their importance longer than others. In a new study published in the journal Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution, researchers examined 24 ancient cities in what’s now Mexico and found that the cities that lasted the longest showed indications of collective forms of governance, infrastructural investments, and cooperation between households.

Put another way, Live Laugh Love font is the comic sans of our generation
I just got rehired at an old job so I'm watching corporate trainings video, and the video on preventing heat illness is using the Walmart Live Laugh Love font to add visual punch. Is there anyway to make Chrome stop with using 'resume your journey' when accessing search history? I research some dark stuff in writing and editing but this feels especially unhinged.

I read this advice column two weeks ago and I've thought about it every day since. I went 2018-2022 without a smart phone and my life, though inconvenienced, was also improved. I noticed that much more about my surroundings, I still felt politically active and engaged, but I wasn't overwhelmed. I think regularly of returning.

Playing the most recent #Porpentine #Twine text video game and enjoying myself immensely. Her use of language is so delightfully strange--at times I find it too much, but it doesn't effect my positive feelings towards the story, a #trans #fantasy tale of #grief and longing.
