While we’re all preparing for the #Boston storm, please remember that our unhoused neighbors can be caught off guard by storms, and may not have easy access to shelter. If you see someone who may need assistance, please call 9-1-1 or offer help.

Genuinely perplexed by this column. Wu is meeting with business people and her staff is talking to developers. But that’s not enough? Why should the mayor be required to pretend she’s friends with rich guys who have business interests in the city? Unfortunate take. https://www.bostonglobe.com/2022/12/22/business/all-i-want-christmas-is-michelle-wu-business-community-get-along/
All I want for Christmas is for Michelle Wu and the business community to get along

While Wu believes in empowering her cabinet members, business honchos don’t want proximity to power. They want a direct line.

we need to stop thinking about online social as something that just needs a tweak. instead we need to be trying/experimenting with radical alternatives, platforms that almost don't qualify as social media within current conceptions of the sector, sites and apps that a16z, etc would never back because they know there's no chance they'll lead to the hypergrowth they seek

Some personal news, before the holidays completely take over: I'm going to be starting a new position in February, working for the Boston Transportation Department. I'll be on the transit team, focusing on rail transit and other transit topics for the City.

I've really enjoyed my time at TransitMatters, and I've been thankful to work with such great people both at TransitMatters and at all the other organizations and agencies across the region. This region is a really special place!

I went to my social club this morning for an event, and when I got there, this white dude was already opening the door, so I figured I would walk in after him. I know he saw me, but he basically just let the door close, so I had to catch it.

When I get in there, he stops and says, "Hey can you sign in?" Not hello. Not good morning. Not how long have you been a member here? He just assumed I *wasn't* and acted on that premise.

I kind of just gave him a stern look and kept walking, and he looked stunned. I half expected him to snitch to the owner, but he saw me start talking to other members and got embarrassed.

People always wonder why I'm so adamant about dealing with racism and hate, and it's because white people do not take breaks from their aggression. The way they just
assume we don't belong in specific spaces is a constant microaggression we have to deal with.

And to keep it real, today's experience reminded me a lot of how the fedi has been since the big migration.

We all need to choose what kind of environment we want to be a part of and the kind of communities we want to build.
I keep thinking about the quote that the essential product of a social network is content moderation

REMINDER #CAMBRIDGEMA RESIDENTS OF W.CAMBRIDGE, NBHD 9, & #HARVARD SQ

This pair of listening sessions on the #GardenStreet project is certain to attract ample disgruntled drivers and parkers (I should know... some of my relatives will be among them).

Cyclists and other #SafeStreets advocates should make themselves known, and show their support for the city’s planning.

“It’s actually insane that fully self driving cars will be everywhere without our consent but a bus or bike lane goes needs years of community and environmental outreach. It’s honestly cruel.”
