@JorgeStolfi well put. A veritable yet evil judo master.

CONGRATULATIONS VLADIMIR PUTIN!

You achieved what Stalin, Khrushev, and Breznev tried in vain: turn the United States of America into a Russian puppet state, with a government that will not dare do half a grumble that might displease you. Without firing a bullet -- in spite of an economy on the brink of collapse, an arsenal fit for the junkyard, and an army that only excels at dying.

Looking forward for the parade in Washington to commemorate that victory!

Lots of talk about the OMB because of the utterly illegal, unconstitutional funding freeze it issued.

A reminder that Russell Vought, the guy Trump wants to lead the agency, is not interested in “normal” democratic politics: He seeks to “traumatize” civil servants, use the military to suppress protests, and sees Trump as an agent of God’s will.

There is no line he doesn’t feel justified to cross.

Meet the Ideologue of the “Post-Constitutional” Right

Russell Vought, one of the architects behind Project 2025, believes there is nothing left to conserve. He desires revolution – and to burn down the system

Friends, now might be a good time to revisit our Stochastic Parrots Day held in March 2023. You can find the recording of the session and additional resources on our website: https://www.dair-institute.org/stochastic-parrots-day/
Stochastic Parrots Day

Our event saw co-authors of the Stochastic Parrots paper and guests reflect on LLM development in the two years since the paper's publication.

The primary job of a development team is the creation and maintenance of a shared mental model of what the software does and how it does it. Periodically, they change the code to implement changes to the mental model that have been agreed upon, or to correct places where the code does not match the model. An LLM cannot reason and does not have a theory of mind and as such cannot participate in the model process or meaningfully access that model — written documentation is at best a memory aid for the model — and thus cannot actually do anything that matters in the process. The executive class would prefer that other people in the org not be permitted to think, let alone paid for it, and therefore willfully confuses the output with the job.

@drunkenmadman And I think part of the problem is that the management class is dumb in a similar way to LLMs. Both are disconnected from the actual work and the real-world impact of that work. Both partly owe their success to the production of plausible-sounding words. Both often escape consequences when the words are wrong. In short, bullshitters have a hard time seeing the problems with bullshit machines.
