@Cocohead @taylorlorenz @91toph @frank_bough @cjt Looking Urbanists.Social, they are likely paying < $100/month for hosting and already have $144/month in recurring $5 donations plus over 20 other people with custom donation amounts. Over $1,500 raised in less than two months. Currently 4,000 users moderated by two volunteers. So, already cash positive while Twitter, with advertisers, is not! https://opencollective.com/urbanistssocial

We run a Mastodon server for people into bikes, transit, and walkable cities.

@91toph @cjt @frank_bough @Cocohead @taylorlorenz Looking at the masto.host pricing, a large instance would cost about a penny per user per user per month in hosting. So if something like 1 in 1000 people paid $10/month, those billed are covered. Businesses would pay more for vanity domains and other features to help cover moderation costs.

I live in #BloomingtonIN and my formerly best source of #tornado information was to search for "Bloomington tornado" on the bird site. That always lead me to Cody K's tweets, which never failed to have the best updates.

Now on #Mastodon, I've created a list named "Tornado" with only his account on it, so even if I forgot his account again, I can still find it.

Glad to see you on Mastodon, @codykirkp !

@sofiav Got it! Here street cats are rare but outdoor house cats are someone common.
@sofiav Or if the cat has a collar it might already have a home. 😀
@micahflee Reading this on Mastodon RN.
@sam Check the logs.
@A_C_McGregor Also, Mastodon! I opened a second Mastodon account on an instance that has a rule to use my target language, and I read and post only in the target language there. Again, I supplement with translation apps as needed.

@ChrisHardie Yesterday I found myself taking a video of the text output of a successful script scrolling by, smiling.

A minute later, it crashed with a vague error.
