Just in case anyone here having ANY buyers remorse at moving your social home away from X/Twitter.

If the Republican Party responds to the Trump indictment solely by attacking courts and judges, and if its leaders continue to work to de-legitimize the legal system, I am not sure how we recover.

For a precedent, Americans don't even have to look beyond our hemisphere: Venezuela is an excellent example of state that slid into autocracy while an elected president repeatedly assaulted judges.

As Meta starts blocking news links and sharing on Facebook and Instagram in Canada, a look at the harm that Bill C-18 will do to the country's media sector (Michael Geist)

The Lose-Lose-Lose-Lose Bill C-18 Outcome: Meta Blocking News Links on Facebook and Instagram in Canada - Michael Geist

For months, supporters of Bill C-18, the Online News Act, assured the government that Meta and Google were bluffing when they warned that a bill based on mandated payments for links was unworkable and they would comply with it by removing links to news from their platforms. However, what has been readily apparent for months became reality yesterday: Meta is now actively blocking news links and sharing on its Facebook and Instagram platforms. The announcement does not reference Threads, but it would not surprise if news links are ultimately blocked on that platform as well. The company says that the blocking will take several weeks to fully roll out to all users, suggesting that it has learned from the over-blocking mistakes made in Australia and is proceeding more cautiously in Canada. By the end of the month, the world’s largest social media platform will become a news desert in Canada, with links to all news - both Canadian and foreign - blocked on the platform.

Mike Pence referring to a “gaggle of crackpot lawyers” is rude, unprofessional, dehumanizing, and unbecoming a presidential candidate.

The preferred terminology is “The Federalist Society.”

"Why can't we just agree to disagree on politics?"

My dude.

- Agree to disagree was called pro-choice. You ended it and shoved authoritarian control of women's bodies down our throats.
- Agree to disagree was called LGBTQ inclusion. You banned it from schools, libraries, bathrooms, sports and the military.
- Agree to disagree was called Black Lives Matter. You mocked it and spat on it and threatened us with violence if we "try that in a small town".
- Agree to disagree was called Democracy. You traitors tried to kill it and install a military coup of your orange god emperor instead.

So no. Apparently, "we" CAN'T agree to disagree. And that's entirely your fault.

I guess honesty is not their biggest game.

AI has its usage, but these companies are just trying to create a buzz with sugar-coating stuff. They just wake up every morning and write nonsense. It is like we don't understand maths and general physics laws. We know the exact limitations of bullshit generative AI too, but calling it the betterment of humanity is not one of them, at least not in the current form. GTFO.

Yet another Trump Indictment.

Let's be clear. Trump was NOT indicted by Biden, Clinton, Pelosi, Soros, Big Bird, Target, Wokeness, Disney World, the pride flag, critical race theory, or Barbie. Trump was indicted by private citizens—as the US Constitution requires. Period.

Love the smell of due process on a Tuesday.

The extreme heat has devastated corals. As a former marine scientist, this is a truly heartbreaking read:

“The coral didn’t even have a chance to bleach, it just died. It just felt like, ‘Oh my God, we’re in the apocalypse.’ What’s happening?”

Teams dedicated to ocean restoration are urgently moving samples to tanks on land as a marine heat wave devastates entire reefs.
