I just linked my first Innr Lighting light bulb to my z-wave powered #homeassistant, and now the light in my study is adaptive and follows the color and brightness of the sun!
This evening, I went to cafe #ViceVersa in #Amsterdam to join the creative writing group "Writing Under The Influence". I received a writing prompt and had only 20 minutes to come up with a story. It's a great way to exercise my creative muscle while drinking delicious Dutch beer 😊
Training a classroom is a form of storytelling, and so I believe teaching and writing are similar art forms. Practicing my writing skills makes me a better teacher.
A fun walk down memory lane — I just rediscovered the book that first taught me how to program a computer, way back when I was just 10 years old!
In 1980, my father brought home a Sharp MZ 80K computer. I was fascinated and spent hours poring over the BASIC programming manual, not just for the code, but also for its quirky, whimsical cartoons.
So strange to read that book again today. And it just shows how effective a cartoon can be for learning 😊
Every Monday I'm at the Rabobank in #Utrecht training a team of data and #AI engineers.
The topic for this week is #PowerBI. The students will finalize their data analysis architecture by building CO2 emission dashboards in PowerBI and linking them to their #Lakehouse.
This is what modern pair programming looks like. In the video, I'm working with an #AI agent to build a new certification practice quiz for my students.
In the panel on the right you can see the agent working autonomously, converting quiz questions into markdown, doing online research and finding good references for each topic.
It took about 20 minutes to process 25 quiz questions, this would normally take me a full day to complete. AI is definitely a force multiplier for senior developers.
Pictures from last week's Microsoft (@dotnet) #Azure #Databricks training for the city council of #Amsterdam. We're in the council chamber of the Tuinstadhuis.
Amazing location, I love what they did with the four screens in the middle of the room!
Today I wrapped up my #Databricks training for KVL in #Rotterdam.
I was happy to discover that the KVL office is in the iconic Van Nelle building in Rotterdam, a monumental factory built in 1920! This was the first factory built entirely out of concrete, and a lot of the original equipment (heating boilers, power generators) is still present.
It felt like giving a training in a museum 😊
It's that time of the year again! My #Azure data students are graduating at the #Rabobank in Utrecht and presenting their final projects.
Highlights of the class of '24 are:
- an innovative technique to use an #LLM to categorize financial transactions
- a system to accurately calculate how much CO2 the Rabobank private datacenter is producing
- a cool #DevOps pipeline to deploy Synapse Analytics into the Rabobank cloud environment
