Sehr gefreut habe ich mich über den Teil, in dem berichtet wurde, dass das Gold Open Access "pay to publish" Modell einfach überhaupt nicht geliefert hat. Jetzt haben wir eben die Mega-Inflation von neuen Journalen, alle auf finanziell wackelingen Füßen mit ganz starken Anreizen Peer Review wegzulassen um mehr veröffentlichen zu können.

While we are still in a proof-of-concept stage with our OJS-based #diamondoa journalservice (thx to @pkp) at @subugoe, our amazing @dbeucke has published an Arabic issue for https://wom-journal.org/wom/issue/view/148 with lots of typographical challenges and embedded sound samples from the 1930ies.
This is the strength of #diamondopenaccess, letting science express itself the way its needed instead of how commercial mainstream can exploit best!

Mal ein kleiner Hinweis an alle, die hier sogenannte „Künstliche Intelligenz“ nutzen, sei es zum erzeugen von Bildern mit irgendwelchen Prompts, zum schreiben von Texten und Programmen, oder, was grade sehr in zu sein scheint, zum erzeugen von „Alt" -Texten als Bildbeschreibung mit irgendeinem #Altbot.

Fast alle dieser KI Server liegen in den USA und gehören zu Microsoft, Google und Meta (Facebook, Instagram & Co.).

Drei Prozent der gesamten in den USA erzeugten Energie geht mittlerweile für den betrieb dieser Server(Farmen) drauf.

Für eine ca. 100 Wörter lange, von einer KI erzeugte Email, verbraucht diese KI so zwischen 2-3 Flaschen Wasser.
Trinkwasser.

Alle drei großen in der Branche, Microsoft, Google und Meta haben Pläne, entweder neue Kernkraftwerke zu bauen oder bestehende alte wieder hochzufahren.

Überall in der nähe dieser Riesigen Rechenzentren steigen für die Anwohner die Strom- und Wasserpreise.

Ganz, ganz eventuell solltet ihr eure #Bibesch #bildbeschreibungstexts doch lieber selber per Hand schreiben, mh?

Seht es mir bitte nach, wenn ich alle die #KI nutzen, ganz definitiv nicht mehr ernst nehmen kann, wenn sie hier irgendwie über den Verbrauch von #Öl, #Gas, #Verbrennerautos, #Klimaschutz, #Klimawandel, Grün, usw. usf. reden und rummeckern.

Jeder der diesen Kram nutzt ist Teil des Problems

SUB Göttingen contributes ~4% of DFG third party funding of our university‘s total. https://foerderatlas.dfg.de/daten/georg-august-universitaet-goettingen/ We‘re proud, howeva: we‘d rather do our anyway innovative work than writing proposals & rather hire staff permanently than in projects. Is there any evidence that our scientific systems improve by being forced into competitive fundraising? What about EDIB and participation?
