Walking around one of those classic American downtowns that was brought back from the brink by a small, visionary group of people including my grandfather is a gift that no financial inheritance can compete with: the gift of hope that things can change, but only with hard work, acceptance of people different from you, and an unwillingness to give up. The trek to Arkansas is a pain but I’m very thankful for a family member who lays a path that guides me and makes me not feel so lonely.
Almost all of this, btw, was a ride with a purpose: a work meeting, a doctor’s appointment (to Good Hope Road 😵), visiting friends, etc etc. I do almost no rides just “for fun.” People go places and biking gets you there. So happy to see so much biking infrastructure being built in Milwaukee
15.3% of Milwaukee County roads in about one year. 2024 is my year for southside riding since it’s where I’m weakest for coverage.
This is a War on Cars graduate-level seminar. /cc

I will be solo for a part of my travels and would love to meet up with anyone who wants to talk my ear off about their theory of change in Paris. Unfortunately I don’t speak French, but I am happy to learn jargon!
It's not going to get someone into shape to feel defeated on the way home from the grocery store, trudging up the last hill with a laden acoustic bike. Many people are not going to go ride it just for exercise. An easy car replacement, even if you barely pedal, is going to get you more active than sitting in a car. I've heard plenty of these stories from people who were able to gradually get in shape thanks to the assisted moderate effort of regular e-bike use. It just removes barriers.
Going to Paris in November and would love to connect with other safe streets/biking folks there! Does anyone have ideas? Would happily buy someone a coffee to provide some nerdy company.
Going to Paris in November and New York in October. I love not owning a car, since it allows me to instead spend my money on trips to world-class cities where I can annoyingly explain bike infrastructure to my boyfriend
New bike day!!! My ebike battery was stolen off the bike that I had converted with the Swytch kit, and I was ready for an upgrade anyway. A friend is buying that bike and getting a new battery, while I upgraded to the cargo life. The Aventon is a pleasant as hell surprise for the cost. Diggin’ it.
