Weekend housekeeping: Upgrading my homelab's multi-node k8s cluster from v1.21 to v1.31.

So some of you might not have realized but our mastodon went down sometime last week when I was vacationing in Tokyo.

The node where our haproxy resides to direct external traffic to our internal nodes went down and I was not able to recover it even with remote hands.

As it turns out, the motherboard of that node died.

In memory of the fallen Optiplex SFF 7010, may I present the new (old) R320.

Here it is aul-naturel as I try and procure some rack rails to mount it.

Wow, after 25 years of Unix experience, I learned that you can filter output in #less.

Press ampersand (&) and enter a regex to show only lines matching the regex.

Press ampersand (&) and then exclamation mark (!) to apply an inverse filter.

I've run our #DNS servers at #DEFCON for about 25 years, and before upgrading one of them I recorded some statistics some might find interesting.

Of all the DNS traffic for a given period:

74% by connection is IPv4
26% by connection is IPv6

2% is using TCP 853 encrypted DoT

31% uses TCP
69% uses UDP
