Hi Fedi, Software and Electronic engineer looking for work here

I'm looking for work in Berlin, or Germany, or remote. I'm especially experienced in programming language/compiler front end design, and working with DSLs, as well as all the usual backend and database skills in high level languages. I can also do basic frontend work. I'm also especially passionate about electronic engineering, with a degree in the subject and a lot of hobby work, especially around low-EMI board layout and design for manufacture.

Liebe Dev-Kollegen: Wenn ihr bei eurem Arbeitgeber #OpenSource-Komponenten einsetzt und damit Geld verdient, dann ist es verdammt nochmal eure moralische (keinesfalls juristische) Pflicht, etwas zurückzugeben!

Also sprecht euren Arbeitgeber JETZT an, ob ihr dieses Jahresende mal an die meistgenutzten Libs/Komponenten ein paar Euro spenden könnt, oder wenigstens ein paar Contributions beisteuern dürft. Ist weiterhin BESCHÄMEND wie selten das (gerade im deutschen "Mittelstand") ist.

I was hoping for a better antenna for the Motorola MTP850. But the old one is better. Does anyone have experience with antennas for the MTP850 Tetra devices?

You voted for soldering — you get soldering. Well, not quite. I opened the box to take a look first. The micro USB connector is definitely nothing I could do with my home lab equipment. I recalled that I had an old hot air gun someone had gifted to me in a used state many years ago. It's not really meant for soldering rework but as some generic tool. Buuuut.. it did the trick! No hot glue and no soldering required. Unfortunately, opening the box didn't go too well. 🤷‍♂️

@foone ah! Could have made a fortune at $17 a pop for those.
Tbf the $17 ones were listed for a long time before I bought them, and there are more expensive ones still up there so I dont know that these are exactly in high demand.

You can verify whether your printer (person/company) nailed the color conversion, or you want to see what's the "exact" color of something you like, or to calibrate a printer or paint mixing system, etc. etc.

IOW, where you need "exact" color match, you need one of these at least one step of the pipeline.

@KayOhtie I'm sure the files are sitting in a tmp directory somewhere but I didn't look that hard; once it was on the device I was happy! I suppose it could be interesting to poke at the firmware itself but I haven't tried.

@azzeloof I didn't know beauty salons had spectrophotometers. What do they use them for?

@bovaz my understanding is they can be used to read someone's skintone to match makeup colors. The stock firmware on the device came with a color fan deck that would only register skintones. I think they're also used to read "supplementary" colors like lipstick, etc.

@azzeloof that makes sense, but I wasn't expecting it.
I suppose I expected things in a beauty salon to be more based on the experience/guts of the professional. I mean, when I got to get an haircut, they don't measure my hair, but rather go by how it looks.

@bovaz agreed, it was a bit surprising to learn. Perhaps there's a use case for "measure face, find the exact right shade of foundation, then order it" so not everything has to be kept in stock.

@azzeloof however, now I kinda wish my hairdresser would measure my hair before and after cutting it.
