Still working on my Japan photos from 2000. My host family arranged an overnight trip to Kyoto. Here's Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Pavilion).
Is there a good video store in Philadelphia? A good toy store? Best record stores?

Study: When experienced open-source developers used current AI tools, work took 19% longer to complete. In spite of which, the developers *thought* they were working *faster.*

It’s just one study, and they don’t claim anything beyond what they observed. Their results are not predictive. Still....

(There must be a name for the psychological trick we play on ourselves to believe we’re being more productive even when we’re considerably less so.)

Measuring the Impact of Early-2025 AI on Experienced Open-Source Developer Productivity

I was in #Okaya, #Japan, in 2000 for a high school exchange. At one point we visited a construction site for a highway tunnel. I *think* this is now part of National Route 20, but I haven't been able to identify it. The poster describes the "Osachi-Tunnel" but that hasn't helped much, except that Osachi is a district on the north side of Okaya.

Scans from 35 mm negatives.

Not to rain on your cathartic rant or anything but:

- Wordpress is NOT an example of modern #PHP

- All powerful & flexible tools give you the ability to blow your own foot off. That's not the tool's fault.

- The escalating complexity of the web dev ecosystem is surprisingly less present in PHP stacks. People come back to PHP for a breath of fresh air.

- Modern PHP & its frameworks is a different beast altogether.

A couple weekends ago I went out with some friends to Ringing Rocks County Park in Bucks County. Probably one of the few county parks that encourages you to bring a hammer, because it has boulder fields full of lithophonic rocks, which resonate when struck. One of my friends moonlights as a singer-songwriter and I swear he was composing a song based on the rock tonalities.

My current Masto host is shutting down this week. Do I have any followers on `front-end.social` willing to send me an invite?
I knew that the Times and Sunday Times got suckered by fake Mussolini diaries in the 1960s. I *didn't* know that the forgers had already gotten nailed for trying to sell the same "diaries" to Life magazine a decade previously: https://books.google.com/books?id=CVUEAAAAMBAJ&lpg=PP1&pg=PA73#v=onepage&q&f=false

It might be a long shot, but I have to try.

If there is anyone out there with a scanner, who has issue 11 of Total! magazine, would you be willing to scan a part of a page for me.

Below is the cover of this issue as well as the affected page.
A previous owner has cut out a coupon on the opposite side.
That side is no issue as the ad is reprinted in the following issue as well, which I have, so I can replace that easily.

The problem is page number 61, where the bottom review for a Super Nintendo game is also gone.
If anyone can get me a clean scan of this part, I'd be able to complete this magazine without any missing sections.

#RetroGaming
#Nintendo

*EDIT*

For the people who might see this post for the first time.

A kind soul has bought a copy of this issue himself and will be scanning the missing part.

So thank you so much, once again, Charles! 😊
