Amateur radio (M0VFC) and broadcast radio (cambridge105.co.uk) in my spare time; Security Lead to keep me busy during the day. šŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆ/He/him

A little shout out to D&R (https://www.dnrbroadcast.com/)... I'm taking a look at one of their mixers for a friend that's developed a couple of faults (well out of warranty).

Their webshop lists almost every component it uses as spares (though there's nothing too exotic to start with), and upon emailing their support team to see if there was a service manual available, I got a full set of schematics by return!

_That_ is how repairability should work...

Wow. The latest @TechConnectify video is just a triumph of everything: https://youtu.be/KtQ9nt2ZeGM?si=-xj4xZCwVz73CXEr

And yes, it's an hour and a half long. And it just keeps building.

You are being misled about renewable energy technology.

Time to make 2025 updates to my annual ā€œopinions about solarā€ thread. If you like these, you might like the second edition of my book, Solar Power Finance Without The Jargon. A 30% discount code WSQ0437 is valid on publisher website until end of Nov 2025.

It's the book I should have read before trying to get a job in renewable energy. Reviewers describe it as ā€œto the point, important, and taught me a lotā€ and ā€œsurprisingly entertaining, don’t be put off by the titleā€.

We tried using a Flex 6400 at G3PYE for the #rsgb 80m SSB contest a couple of weeks ago for the first time - only to find no audio from the headset mic.

Two headsets, same problem. Headset on the Elecraft K3 worked fine.

Just found the issue: Sennheiser connect tip to ring on the mic jack. Flex connect ring to shield on the mic socket.

Solved with a short adaptor cable which I must now try not to loose before the next contest... #hamr

If anyone Cambridge (UK)-adjacent is looking for a Service Desk Engineer role, my day job team is hiring!

https://www.red-gate.com/our-company/careers/current-opportunities/service-desk-engineer/

(We have a _genuinely awesome_ service desk team, who do far more than you might typically associate with an SDE role, and are all lovely people. Also dedicated Slack channels for cat, dog, and other pet photos.)

Playing around with some Bluetooth stuff today.
Made a thing that dumped BLE advertisement packets out.
OMG that's a lot of packets.
Wait, they're almost all from one device.
<googles service UUID>
Wait they're all from my Nespresso machine.
Why does my Nespresso machine even have Bluetooth?
And why is it sending 100 packets a second while being apparently switched off?
_Why have I just had to figure out how to put my coffee machine into flight mode..._

Out with G3PYE/P in the March 144/432MHz contest today.

Forgot the rotator controller for 70cm so had to improvise with a switch and multimeter.

Beaming 290 ohms...

If a popular npm package started including the EICAR antivirus test string somewhere in its content, I wonder how far through how many companies' build and deployment pipelines it would get before being detected?

With more builds and deployments being containerised, and the prevalence of automated dependency updates (both, on balance, likely to be a good thing for most folks), I wonder how far into production something would get before an actual AV engine sees it...
