it's 22:07 on Friday night and my poor NL friends have to deal with me trying to get my language privileges revoked
I don’t SPRINT. I do not SCRUM. I do not TIMEBOX. I do not give my tasks STORY POINTS. I choose my work based on WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN. And if your task gets in the way of my investigations? It DOES NOT HAPPEN.
It seems the time has come, huh. Is anyone looking for a senior SRE with deep Linux expertise and experience with infrastructure at massive scales (ex-Meta, ex-Apple)? UK, remote (happy to visit the office anywhere in the UK every month or so). I prefer working on the automation, CI/CD, load testing, or low level debugging. However, I will not work on anything related to generative AI.

Are you an @emf fan? Do you love things like the art, the installations, the free childcare? Then send your favourite organisations to https://emfcamp.org/sponsor 💖 we’d love to hear from potential sponsors, if none of our tiers quite fit what you’re after, please don’t let that stop you reaching out.

Boosts for reach much appreciated.

Sponsor Electromagnetic Field

Electromagnetic Field is the UK's largest camping festival for people interested in technology, science, and arts. We're looking for sponsors to help us make this year our best event yet.

Finally got around to configuring Routinator for RPKI and creating some ASPAs. Nice.
It seems mind-boggling that, even though you have logged in and the form system could help you out (is [old value] your first name or do you need to change it? is [value] your Unique Taxpayer Reference? is [address] still your current address?) the designers of the form simply haven't bothered to do this, and instead just subject everyone to a barrage of questions.

In the new-style version of the website:

Step 1: find the "change" link next to your name and click it.
Step 2: you're dropped into a generic "Notification of change in personal details" flow. Click "Start now".
Step 3: select the "Change of name" checkbox. Click "Save and continue".
Step 4: For some reason, it now asks you about your address. Click "Yes" to "Is your current address in the UK?", and answer what your postcode is, and when you moved in. You must also provide a phone number. If you don't remember the day, month, and year you moved in, you cannot proceed. Come back later. Note that there is an entirely separate flow for updating your address that doesn't use this form. Press save and continue.
Step 5: It'll then ask your for your Unique Taxpayer Reference. Select "yes". Go back to the "Account home" section that you started this flow from and copy and paste the number, then press save and continue.
Step 6: Finally you are asked about the name correction. Click "No" to "Is this a correction of a previous name change" and provide a date for the name change. Select yes or no based on which of your first, middle, and last names are changing - note that this form does not tell you what the current data held is, so you just have to know what HMRC already thinks your name is. Pick whether this is just for contact purposes, or if this is a legal change of name. Click save and continue.
Step 6: Get a confirmation of what you've entered. Press "save and continue"
Step 7: Get a reference for the change of name

It's fascinating how some (British) government agencies have interpreted Government Digital Service guidance in a way which makes services much more frustrating to use.

For instance, HMRC: if you end up on the 'old' part of the website, you can update your name like so:
Step 1: find the "update your name" link and click it.
Step 2: type in your name, and click next
Step 3: confirm that the details you entered are correct, check the box, and click next
Step 4: receive confirmation

Heyo,
Me + @dx made a project for #39c3 this year, in which we made 5 DIY air purifiers a la Corsi-Rosenthal Cubes, but modified to be more portable, easier to take apart and put together, and overall be congress-safe. We had them at Angel Restaurant (2), CERT (2) and Kidspace (1), so you may have seen them around.

We have published details and files here if interested: https://github.com/c3infsch/aircycles (feel free to reach out with questions or if you want to build them so we can help)

We just finished taking them apart for the year and threw out most of the filters as they looked really dark, and with that we're done with 39c3 🎉

If you'd like to help offset our costs so far, and help us build more for future events (we got so many more requests than we could supply), we've set up donation links:
https://bunq.me/aveao (also shows the IBAN if you prefer to do a bank transfer)
https://paypal.me/aveaoz
(Transfer reference "Aircycles Donation" or "Aircycles Spende" please.)

As for the amount: We've spent about 700eur not including the costs of prototyping, and for next year we plan to build even more of them to meet the demand. We don't intend to make a profit, so I might edit this post later if donations reach too high an amount (but I doubt we'll get there).

Thank you! (and boosts welcome)

If you're feeling sad about waiting a year until next Congress, can I suggest RUNNING YOUR OWN?

It doesn't have to be big, and there's clearly plenty of demand. People love these events. If you're in the UK drop me a line, I can help.
