Text edited to add citation from Paulo Ceppi, a climate scientist at London’s Grantham Institute via WaPo: "Instrument-based global temperature records go back to the mid-19th century, but for temperatures before that, scientists are dependent on proxy data captured through evidence left in tree rings and ice cores. “These data tell us that it hasn’t been this warm since at least 125,000 years ago, which was the previous interglacial,” Ceppi said, referring to a period of unusual warmth between two ice ages." https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2023/07/05/hottest-day-ever-recorded/
This July 4 was hot. Earth’s hottest day on record, in fact.

Scientists say the average temperature on Earth was 62.9 degrees Fahrenheit on July 4, the highest since at least 1979 and a sign of the worsening climate crisis.

Roon consists of a client app that talks across wifi to a server app. There is a very limited Node package that gives read-only access to the server. Poking quickly into it, it looks like the transport is JSON.

I want to reverse engineer the POST-style messages to the server, so that I can turn my desire to move a playlist item into the appropriate copy-then-delete action Roon has built in.

I did find a Reaper-for-podcasts series of videos. They’re helpful so far, modulo the usual “OK, the HOME key does that on Windows, what is it on the Mac” and some rearrangement of the UI in the past two years. I am cautiously optimistic.
This is Mastodon and this is why it rocks!

Well, it happened. We knew it was coming. A prick pulled the plug. And what bothers me most about it is how Space Karen did it. My mom passed away just before Christmas. Her decline was something everyone in the family saw coming and we prepared for her demise. It still hurts like hell, but […]

If Elon Musk can afford to lose $200 billion in a single year, he can afford a wealth tax.

Why I don't buy into #ChatGPT hype.

There are three key problems with all of these GPT-based #AI tools:

1. Pattern matching #algorithms, by definition, can never create anything new

2. Focusing on quantity, instead of quality, of #content is a race to the bottom.

3. AI tools lie. A lot.

Yeah, I liked "system metaphor" but it seemed to be too "liberal arts" for a lot of techies. It seemed like such an easy way to gain "conceptual integrity."
