I really enjoyed editing some blog post drafts from a couple of people in tech recently.

I want to do it again, so open offer:
If anybody #writing any long form pieces on #tech #marketing or #content wants a pair of eyes and probably very picky & overly detailed comments from me, who has been trained as a professional editor and writing instructor for 5+ years now - send me your Google docs or Notion pages in DMs here.

I’ll try to take a look while I have time!

The tape-tearing tiktok you didn’t know you needed:

Thinking of moving servers to #Hachyderm but hesitating because my posts wouldn’t move over 🥲

Although the longer I hesitate, the more posts I would have to lose

All metrics are subjective, it’s just that you don’t see the subjectivity because it’s baked in at metric definition time. What you decide to measure and how you decide to measure it are both subjective decisions.

Having a small platform is so weird.

Every now & then I get discouraged because it feels like nobody looks at my work.

And then I get a message like this and everything feels worth it again ☺️

Most “best practices” in content #marketing are a losing game.

Marketers HAVE TO stop copying ideas, points, and examples from everyone else at the top of search results.

Trying to stand out by writing the same “best project management tools for 2023” list is an unproductive use of time and budget.

Here's a real example of how silly this #SEO optimized content race can get.

Every image below is from top results for “project management tools” describing Monday.com

Pull quotes continued:

"The compulsion to show 'balance' by always referring to AI's alleged potential for good should be dropped by acknowledging that the social benefits are still speculative while the harms have been empirically demonstrated."

"Instead of reactionary solutionism, let us ask where the technologies are that people really need. Let us reclaim the idea of socially useful production, of technological developments that start from community needs."

ChatGPT is David Copperfield.

Here's the thing: ChatGPT is impressive, interesting, and I suspect has some real use cases.

But I think a lot of people who believe they are seeing the future (especially the NEAR future) of xyz in ChatGPT are being dazzled by smoke and mirrors.

If I want to see the Statue of Liberty disappear, I'll call David Copperfield. And I'll be dazzled.

But if I actually have a real thing to demolish, I will call an engineer and a professional crew.

@amandanat just published an incredibly thorough post about speaking at live or online #conferences

If you aren't convinced, here's how she describes it:
"This isn’t an “ultimate guide.” This isn’t going to be 5,000 words containing every single thing you need to know about public speaking. This is a crash course. Succinct advice on a bunch of things that you need to know about speaking at conferences. Things that most people wouldn’t even think to advise you on."

Out of curiosity, I Googled, “public speaking tips” and the first piece of advice I saw was: “Breathe.” After my eyes rolled out of my head and I plopped
