Completely missed this, came out in 2022, originally recorded in 1977 and never released or maybe only in Brazil. Joyce Moreno aka Joyce is one of my favorite 🇧🇷 singers. I only previously was aware of one track from this album, “feminina,” a funky 11min flute workout that was on a compilation called “A Trip to Brazil.” Arranged by Claus Ogerman, who worked with Jobim and Frank Sinatra, the whole album is really beautiful, I can’t believe it exists. https://joycemoreno.bandcamp.com/album/natureza-produced-arranged-conducted-by-claus-ogerman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-15XzOQQ2w

Hey, what’s going on with jazz? New piece for Aquarium Drunkard. https://aquariumdrunkard.com/2024/02/28/jazz-ragas-for-restless-times/

“At this year’s NYC Winter Jazzfest, the dominant forms veered into New Age & ambient territory: abstract, pretty, burbling along in loose conglomerations of synths and ‘organic’ instrumentation.”

Jazz Ragas For Restless Times : Aquarium Drunkard

At this year's NYC Winter Jazzfest, the dominant forms veered into New Age and ambient territory: abstract, pretty, burbling along in loose conglomerations of synths and “organic” instrumentation. And maybe jazz comingling with New Age sensibilities is exactly the antidote we need for today's troubling times.

A TASTE OF TASTE

just remembering that time #pitchfork let me write about the reissue of ned lagin's "seastones" & rate it 8.0. https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/ned-lagin-seastones/
Ned Lagin: Seastones

An expanded new mix of an overlooked, misunderstood 1975 electronic “biomusic” opus—featuring mysterious contributions from Jerry Garcia, David Crosby, Phil Lesh, and others—finally gives the record its due.
