Guess we’re doing this now.

@freakazoid nice display name babe.
@taylorlorenz The lack of quote posting is really aggravating. I think the ability to turn it off is one good option, and I think the ideal thing is that if you block someone, any quotes no longer point back to you, so you can remove specific quote tweets that are causing you to be targeted.
I think if people want Mastodon to be a place where news media thrives, where ppl can openly and freely exchange ideas, amplify content etc we need a quote post/Tumblr reblog-like function. The way to curb harassment isn't to refuse key features imo, it's to give more control. For ex, giving users the ability to turn quote posts on/off, etc. And I just want to reiterate again that this is all simply my own personal perspective! I know many disagree and that's fine :D 5/
@celesteh hey, it’s not just me!
@ashton that’s happening all over Twitter. Posts from a thread are weirdly mixed in with replies as well.
@Are0h @imtheq @freakazoid Trump is largely a very stupid person with a couple of specific skill sets that helped him, along with a media that simply wasn’t prepared to deal with a politician who is perfectly comfortable with constant, obvious lies.
@serge @freakazoid I would hold off on declaring point 2. Mastodon has been a relatively small and insular community for a long time, and what works well for a small community often doesn’t scale.
@freakazoid that’s true. An option is always to largely opt out of politics and focus on direct action. I’m not sure I have it in me to ignore it though, I’m probably going to be a Democrat every November even when it feels futile.
@freakazoid depends on how you define winning. Neither of us are likely to substantially move the needle of American politics, but I think it’s easier to focus on supporting the people around you and building community if you believe there is some possibility of a win.
@jackyan @freakazoid @mpjgregoire @Are0h I’m never going to have that problem either, but I’m not sure it’s all that hard. If you can recognize sycophantic behavior, you can reject it.
