@b0rk If you're building an API for arbitrary other people to call from the front end it needs to have * (and is then authenticated through something like OAuth tokens)

@pathunstrom I did the WCAG foundations course earlier this year and I liked how it included a lot about how people with (and without!) disabilities use the web and various accessibility technologies and features, including in some unexpected ways! A good overview on the why, also some stuff about making a business case for it, not super technical on the how (but points you to a lot of resources).

@retrohistories I've been reading Chokepoint Capitalism and one thing it mentioned is how podcasting is one of the few things left that still has many players at all points of the market (and hence not a "chokepoint") - different listening apps, different publishing platforms, etc. Of course Spotfiy would love to take that over...
Ottawa folks; Check out various creative projects and groups at FabFest at the Rideau Rockcliffe Community Hub (former Rideau High School) tomorrow - I'll be there with some others from the Ottawa Valley Weavers' and Spinners' Guild. https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/fab-festival-2025-tickets-1552770110199 #ottawa

@vmbrasseur I once had a company share my email address with presumably the entire 50-100ish person company when they sent me an offer (and before I accepted) - I got a dozen or so emails from folks all around the company introducing themselves, many before I even had the formal written offer! I found it super creepy and it contributed to me declining the offer. The company dealt with health data.
@nusher @maxleibman WCAG guidelines encourage succinct alt text that focuses on the purpose, not a detailed description of the image.
Imagine someone makes a post with the text "My new boss".
Would a blind user rather hear "Picture of a cat" (that's the joke!) or "A living room with 2 red leather chairs and a brown leather sofa with a red blanket and 2 red throw pillows on either end. The coffee table is cluttered with magazines. The walls are grey. There's an orange cat on the sofa playing with a toy mouse"? Because I see stuff like the latter all the time here.

And how many uniquely memorable passwords do you have to remember and not screw up? In this blog by Troy Hunt, he estimated he had 130 accounts back in 2011. https://www.troyhunt.com/im-sorry-but-were-you-actually-trying/
I’m sorry, but were you actually trying to remember your comical passwords?

I love a good XKCD comic; Randall Munroe has a unique way of cutting right to the crux of technology issues and always doing it in a humorous fashion. Little Bobby Tables [http://xkcd.com/327/] remains an all-time classic and it’s amazing how many times you’ll see

@TAVCreations I find it amusing how they talk about the "traditional" linear model, when that's been "traditional" for maybe 50-70 years or so! The traditional model has always been repair and reuse!

@codinghorror "Lenticular stickers which change from an image of Donald Trump with the text Make America Great Again to a zombie surrounded by Obey and Make Billionaires Even Richer" would be better alt text! "An assortment of lenticular stickers on a kitchen table" is true but rather misses the point.

Also, TIL that those things are called Lenticular :)
