Raymond Chandler would have been 135 years old today.
He didn't begin writing till he was 44, but he left us 27 years worth of wonderful prose.
Excellent response from Justin Jones, expelled (but I hope soon to be reinstated, one way or another) member of the TN legislature. https://youtu.be/mVANLCCXhiA

Clay Bennett's Times cartoon for April 4, 2023.

3 weeks ago I'd never heard of Peter Grainger. Now I spend all my free time reading his DC Smith series. I'm on book 7 now, wishing I still had more than 2 to go. The audiobook (free on audible and hoopla) perfectly captures MC's sardonic tone, sharp observations, quirky sense of humor (humor not always appreciated by his coworkers). The most engrossing procedural series (including Cleeves' Shetland books, which is saying a lot) I've ever read. #5, pictured, is my favorite but best read in order

Your Daily Affirmation:

If I am bold, mighty forces will come to my aid; probably the Giant Invisible Success Marmot, who brings joy and waffles to all who believe. May she fend off spurious fuckweasels and hatchet bearing murder bears.

Very funny (especially if you've seen Downfall): https://youtu.be/PH5I6cLIc38

A lot of us like to take #reading material with us when we #travel, but #Napoleon had his own #library & #librarians to keep track of them all.

When even that was too cumbersome, he commissioned a thousand #books to be reprinted in #miniature ! 😲

"There should be forty works on #religion, forty dramatic works, forty volumes of epic and sixty of other #poetry, one hundred novels and sixty volumes of #history, the remainder being #historical #memoirs of every period."

Every piece of technology has a precedent. Most have several different types of precedents. You've probably used (and may well own) an eBook reader, for instance, but what would have afforded you a selection of reading material two or three centuries ago?
