Raymond Chandler would have been 135 years old today.
He didn't begin writing till he was 44, but he left us 27 years worth of wonderful prose.
3 weeks ago I'd never heard of Peter Grainger. Now I spend all my free time reading his DC Smith series. I'm on book 7 now, wishing I still had more than 2 to go. The audiobook (free on audible and hoopla) perfectly captures MC's sardonic tone, sharp observations, quirky sense of humor (humor not always appreciated by his coworkers). The most engrossing procedural series (including Cleeves' Shetland books, which is saying a lot) I've ever read. #5, pictured, is my favorite but best read in order
I'm rewatching BBC's Shetland series after reading Ann Cleeves' excellent Shetland mysteries. It's different enough from the books to make it fascinating to revisit. It features similar situations and some of the same characters (or at times, just their names), but it changes and simplifies plots, often choosing different people, some invented for the episodes, as murderers. If you've only watched the show or read the novels, I recommend trying the other. Neither makes the other seem less fresh.
