From their own mouths. All is not theirs it seems;
One fatal tree there stands, of Knowledge called,
Forbidden them to taste. Knowledge forbidden!
Suspicious, reasonless. Why should their Lord
Envy them that? can it be sin to know?
Can it be death? and do they only stand
By ignorance? is that their happy state,
The proof of their obedience and their faith?

@kissane @[email protected] I regularly wander round my house looking for the thing that I have in my hand.
That's a hell of a metaphor for modern conservative Christianity.

We upset some Catholics!

It's hilarious to us that when they become aware of a group promoting empathy, compassion, rational discussion and the opposition of injustice their first thought is: "how can we put a stop to this?"

Great job showing everyone what you stand for – and more importantly, what you do not.

It's Transgender Day of Remembrance, and once again we mourn our friends, siblings and comrades who have left us too soon.

Join us in celebrating their lives by continuing to strive for acceptance for all, and working towards a future free from bigotry and intolerance around any individual's real or perceived gender identity.

TransEdu has compiled a list of resources for trans and non-binary people, which you can find linked below. If you are in crisis — please reach out. We care, and so do hundreds like us. Every loss is one too many.

TransEDU - Organisations & Community

Back on June 9th of this year and then again on the following day, GOS UK noted the troubling rise in influence that extreme religious groups were beginning to have over the education of British schoolchildren. We were alarmed to see that at least two members of a five-person review team belonged to, or were affiliated with, religious groups that protested against LGBTQI+ people and abortion and wanted to promote education centred around their ideas of God.

The UN Child Rights Committee (CRC) recently produced a report that was damning towards current educational standards and teaching for British schoolchildren. This highlighted the undue influence of religion in education, stating that the UK should "Repeal legal provisions for compulsory attendance in collective worship." and that the UK should establish "statutory guidance to ensure the right of all children, including children under 16 years of age, to withdraw from religious classes without parental consent".

Instead of taking the findings of this report onboard, the UK Government appears to be doubling down on its promotion of religious fundamentalism in education by listening to extreme right-wing Christian fundamentalists within its own Party.....

#TheSatanicTemple is an ouroboros of malice and incompetence, and #TST's latest legal failure challenging #Indiana's #abortion ban put that on full display once again.

Why did The Satanic Temple lose its Indiana abortion lawsuit?

TST's failure in The Satanic Temple Inc. vs Rokita highlights how ill-equipped and deeply unserious the Temple's owners are about confronting the Christian right, especially in a post-Dobbs world.

@feditips @[email protected] your last paragraph bears no relation to the first three.

They can apply for all the grants in the world, get all the financial support they need and it's never, ever going to legitimise their political beliefs - or them as people. Neither will it lead to them having any meaningful power or influence. They're tankie idiots who happen to make decent software. That's all.
@feditips @[email protected]

"That's not how it works. The more often someone is seen in a prominent position, the more legitimacy they receive in the eyes of the public and their followers."

No one working on fediverse software is seen as prominent in any community except this one. And the fact they develop software is what they're interviewed about, not their political beliefs. Are you influenced by Eugene's political stance? Of course you're not. None of them are in any way topical or relevant to anything except what they build.

"The developers don't make the content, they make the framework that displays the content."

That's kind of my point. It matters not one jot who the developers of a platform are, or what they think. The users and the content are what make or break a platform.

Fact of life: its literally impossible to exist in modern life without money or some other type of use making its way from you to someone awful.

"They also promote specific instances on the platform's official site."

No they don't. When you visit join-lemmy.org you can either see all instances ( And their own wasn't in the first 20 I looked at) or, you can start a sort of wizard thing where you select an instance based on topics of interest.
@feditips @[email protected] well, I would. I would just think he was an idiot, not use his instance and join one that was doing some good things. Because the opinions of a developer of a piece of software that isn't profit motivated is largely irrelevant to me.

Surely the best 'revenge' against bad people is to use their product for good things? That's the mindset of the vast majority of Lemmy instance owners and that's what defederation is for.
@feditips @[email protected] Ernst has done as good a job as he possibly can with KBin but his instance is a mess as he doesn't have time to Admin it. There's some very toxic communities on there. MBin seems to be taking a much more open and constructive development path.

re: Lemmy developers - who cares? It's impossible to live in the modern world without using/owning something made by awful people. They'll still be tankie idiots even if BBC profile them. Doesn't lend them as people any legitimacy whatsoever. And in the meantime, your stance is unfairly excluding people putting in a lot of work and effort to make good instances and Communities on those instances.

Surely thats what matters - the quality of the content, not who develops it.
