I don't wanna make fun of Indians, they're the victims of companies like “builder.ai” or the “Amazon Go” store, which all claimed to have some newfound magical box, when in reality they had off-shore teams working day and night to make whatever idiotic thing they promised possible.

Even before the ChatGPT hype I visited seminars where they talked about click-farms, where people in the global south were paid cents by the hours simply to mark on images what pixel belongs to one object and which to the other.

Whatever AI will become, I will never forget the blood it was built on. With capitalism, there's no magic, it's just exploitation, every time.

For those not up to speed with the latest AI jargon, I hope to clarify some things:

  • AI: Actually Indians
  • LLM: Low-cost Labor in Mumbai
  • AGI: A Genius Indian
  • GPT: Gujarati Professional Typist
  • API: A Person in India

Every time a company promises a revolutionary “AI” product, they just exploit cheap labor from India.

as a wise aardvark once said “having fun isn’t hard when you’ve got a library card”

A new permanent slavery caste.

Which is also why they want to get rid of birthright citizenship.

Then it's just chattel slavery with extra steps.
@rejinl @JosephMeyer

Parece que direção correta do fenômeno não é reclamar da política em filme de hominho, mas que a realidade não tem que ser tão caricata.

So. I've been on field manual labor crews where most of my coworkers were convicts.

I've also worked with a lot of tech companies on automating farms.

And this press conference is incredible. Rollins hasn't the foggiest clue what she's on about.

I have to confess.
I'm sorry not sorry.
Since the 4th of this month I have been peeling away the layers of despair and feeling some feelings I haven't allowed lately.
I have been reading poetry, baking treats for the people I love, watching baseball, telling bad grandma jokes, listening to music, and enjoying my garden. I even went so far as to allow the music to move me to dance. Summer joins right in. She loves to dance and sing.
I know that I have influence that serves to drag down or lift up the people close to me. I needed a reset.
I still feel a burning desire to do my part to help dig us out of the political mess we are in, but I don't have to give up everything that brings me joy and feeds my soul.
Thank you for understanding.
This double delight rose is outside our front door this morning.
Much love to you all.

@NorcalGma2 the way I look at it is this will be a marathon fight, not a sprint. It will take decades to reverse all of this. The last thing we need is to have people burned out and giving up in a year’s time. We all need to stick to what we love, which will help us stay focused for the long ass fight we have ahead of us. Anger and rage only gets you so far. A steady mind outlasts and wins the race every time.
@BeautifulThings
We agree. Living in anger wasn't good for me.
@NorcalGma2 it’s not good for anyone and if you’re looking at a long fight, it’s unsustainable

@NorcalGma2

Feeling joy is so critical, especially now. Don't let them steal it.

@NorcalGma2

I absolutely support you in all of this!!!!!

You are a whole person. You put a lot of effort into spreading love in the world -- and you also have the whole human experience, including down days and the need to relax, recharge, and have some fun that is just for you 💜🌷

The 4th hit a lot of us hard. I found Sarah Taber's thread helpful

@NilaJones
I will check it out. Thanks.
@NorcalGma2 Same for me, I had dreams the other night that woke me up laughing, and I was happy to discover I still had the capacity to laugh at anything 🫶😊
@NorcalGma2
Right there with you.
Took a nice drive into through a nearby canyon last night.
Me n hubs both needed it.
Then we stopped for dinner and did something I’ve never done before but is becoming more a habit- stopped for ice cream.
My belly’s getting fat and I don’t really catch too much.
Your toots inspire me ❤️
Thank you for being such an authentic presence here.
@RiaResists
Ice cream is my favorite.
Hugs.
❤️
@NorcalGma2 Much love to you Gma. I’m so happy you’ve been able to let loose and put your mind and body on things that give you delight. ❤️
@NorcalGma2 Never give up your joy! And keep sharing, both the joy, and even the down days. Let's hope there are fewer and fewer of them going forward. Much love
@NorcalGma2 your joy and despair are both gifts to the world because they come from a compassionate heart. There are many of us in the same place, dancing, burning, and weeping alongside you. Thank you for sharing your light.
@intrepidhero
You are very kind. Thank you.
@NorcalGma2 I would *so* love to dance with you and Summer some Sunday morning at https://santacruzdancecircle.org/. Dogs are welcome because we also dance outside. Summer’s pal is welcome to sit and watch, or play with Summer and her other dog dance friends.

@paulehoffman
Sounds like great fun but after the seven hour drive we might not feel too perky.
@NorcalGma2 True, true, but I still wanna dance with you and the family.
@NorcalGma2
You are awesome. You're echoing my own feelings lately. So I try and get out for at least a short walk around our senior community 5-6 times a week, and I am ready to take the plunge back into bread making. I'm currently looking for a local person who will share some of their sourdough starter with me.
And for the first time in way too many years, I again have roses. They are still rather small plants, but they seem to agree that they will take turns blooming. 😉
That's all for now, except that your double rose is amazing and beautiful. Have a great week ahead. Give Summer a pet for me as well, and say "Hi" to your mister as well.
CHEERS!
PS, one of mine.
@NorcalGma2 myself. All the way down the list. TOGETHER we're going to get through it and maybe even improve it. xo to all at your house.
@NorcalGma2 Thank you for this. Stay safe
@NorcalGma2 Throw in some Tiger Moves with John McSweenie.

@NorcalGma2 Great to hear that your joy is giving you strength!

This fight will take a while. We’re going to need more joy, not less.

@NorcalGma2 This is uplifting. Thank you for sharing, and ❤️.
@NorcalGma2 Hang in there for the long fight. We need joy and sustenance as well as periods of pure rage. You are a model citizen. Be there for your family and yourself as well as for the rest of us.
@NorcalGma2 And much love to you too, stay happy !
@NorcalGma2 thank you for the dual gift of this Beautiful photo and wonderful hashtag 🍸🐈 cheers! #bloomscrolling
@martinicat
Love the colors! 😍
@NorcalGma2 during the jacaranda time here, it really caught my eye🍸😺
@NorcalGma2
Not kidding. I thought I wrote that. I had to check.
@NorcalGma2 I just re-read that again and I can't believe it.
You are mirroring all my feelings.
@NorcalGma2 it's too soon, but
I think we could talk.
Just for whatever. IDK.
Just for company.
You say what I'm thinking.
I have no idea who the detroit tigers are.
@NorcalGma2
OK. Except for the baseball thing.
@gemlog
I do love to watch the Detroit Tigers.
@NorcalGma2
Honestly! :-)
You and @trebach with his usian football thing! :-)

Explain it to me! I have played them both, but they are both like watching paint dry to me. I don't get it.

@gemlog @trebach
My son was a huge fan and watching was something we could do together. As a single mom baseball and Zelda were two ways to bond with my teenager.
My son passed almost ten years ago now and for the first time in years and years his team is winning. I watch on a tablet so I can still get things done while the game is on. Great fun.

Another thing I don't do is gaming.
But those are negatives and we began with the positives of sport, poetry, music and literature.
edit: not that gaming and sports are negative! Just that I didn't say encouraging things.

@gemlog
In my getting close to 70 years I have learned to like and dislike lots of activities.
I never watch golf for an example.
I have managed to connect with some of the favorite activities of my children. My daughter's garden has been a source of joy for both of us. We both love art and galleries.
I didn't learn to play video games myself until I was in my late 50's.
I avoid games with themes that make me uncomfortable.
@NorcalGma2 Same age. Ish. Still don't play games.
@NorcalGma2
Oh no! I'm so sorry I teased you. I can't imagine what it's like outliving your boy.
@trebach
@gemlog @trebach
Thank you. I miss him everyday.
@NorcalGma2 Well. I couldn't have known, but I still feel like shit now.
@gemlog
You shouldn't feel bad.
@NorcalGma2 I know. Emotions aren't reasonable; just how one reacts to things.
I mind a time I heard a lecture and the person said your mind was like a train.
And logic should always pull the train and just drag emotions along behind in the caboose. Trouble happens if the train gets reversed somehow.
@NorcalGma2 Let's have a new topic.

@gemlog @NorcalGma2 @trebach

lol
Baseball is relaxing and not violent. It's family oriented.

@generika
It was ok to play after work at a newspaper, but deadly dull to watch. Well.
Not as dull as USian football! :-)
An average of 11 minutes of play in 3 hours of telecast... ;-)
Also, I'm rubbish at doing it!

@NorcalGma2 @trebach

@NorcalGma2 I know just how you feel. My 5-point plan goes like this:- 1) Take action in my own life (to live ethically and sustainably) 2) Take political action 3) Protect and support my loved ones 4) Celebrate all the good, joyful, beautiful things in the world 5) Create goodness, joy and beauty. And those last two are what make it possible to keep on with the first two.
@NorcalGma2 Double Delight has always been a favorite of mine
