An exceedingly uncharitable belief that I've long held is that the majority of the anti-telemetry hackernewser crowd aren't opposed to telemetry because of privacy, but because telemetry generates evidence of how little their opinions actually matter. Further and even more uncharitably I believe that most of the world's AI enthusiasm supports this belief: the hackernewser commentariat doesn't care about reality or craft nearly as much as being seen as holding a smart person's opinions.

I signed up for a black-market time-travel tour as soon as I heard about them. (The first rule of Time Club etc.)

There’s an hour long pre-mission briefing on how you must be extremely careful in what you say or do as the smallest event could have future-changing consequences.

After that, they give you back your money, admit that there is no time machine, and tell you “now go and do the smallest thing you can to make the future better”.

I’m not even mad.

#Firefox now has a global AI killswitch.

Settings->AI Controls->Block AI Enhancements. Turn it on and live in peace.

The UK government's plan to teach 10 million British children how to use VPNs may be one of the most ambitious IT education projects ever launched. Experts have praised the scheme, saying that a deft combination of incentives and peer education make it more likely to succeed than other, comparable initiatives.

"With the rise of autocratic governments worldwide, VPN-literacy is more essential than ever.” said one expert, “This bold project definitely comes at the right time.”

Nobody wants to believe this is true, but the number of people who ever change any of the default settings is a rounding error in the overall user population of any piece software.

FYI, some anti-homeless installations can be dismantled easily with the right tools. If you notice this shit in your neighborhood, maybe take a look to see how the obstruction is attached to the surface it is on.

It's possible that in some scenarios all someone would need is a socket wrench. If that someone is a white man wearing an orange vest, they might even get away with walking up & just removing something in broad daylight.

What you do with the information you gather is up to you.

@gumnos Now it's an academic topic of debate!
@gumnos I can't. Clearly it should be spaghettus.
