Natalie Zemon Davis, one of the greats, has passed. I was fortunate to meet her on several occasions - she was an emeritus professor in my department. Beyond her formidable published body of work, mostly focused on early modern France, I was always struck by her generosity and genuine interest in others' research, regardless of field or stature.
