Research funding has been politicised and universities are losing public trust — is this the year that will reverse those trends? - ABC Religion & Ethics

The notable decline of public confidence in universities suggests that university researchers need to do more to explain the importance of what we do, including the funding systems we work within.

Currently reading ‘May Tomorrow Be Awake: On Poetry, Autism, and our Neurodiverse Future’ by Chris Martin. Plenty of reflections like this one, challenging (neurotypical) assumptions of ability based on neuronormative ways of seeing and engaging with the world.

SXSW Sydney 2023

In October 2023, South by Southwest (SXSW) the Texan cultural behemoth, ventured outside of Austin for the very first time and unfurled itself through Sydney's inner city. SXSW Sydney 2023 was a vast program of music, film, gaming and conference events that was both daunting and inspiring in scope. There were teething problems to be sure: the schedule was nearly impossible to process and queueing for sessions became an event in itself.

I grew up playing golf, but now wrestle with how golf courses fly in the face of some of the biggest problems our world is challenged with. It was interesting then to hear the latest ‘With, not For’ podcast episode discuss how the history of the game was not always focused on gatekeeping and overuse of resources for the few, and how inclusive design of golf courses can reclaim these spaces for communities. https://withnotfor.podbean.com/e/golf-anyone-golf-course-designer-christine-fraser-breaks-barriers-to-make-golf-an-inclusive-sport/
Golf anyone? Golf course designer, Christine Fraser, breaks barriers to make golf an inclusive sport. | With, not For

While Christine Fraser loves her golf, she recognises golf needs to be more inclusive. It should be accessible to anyone who wants to play. As a course designer, Christine is on a mission to make this happen. Listen to Christine talk about how golf can be more inclusive and how she has broken barriers to be one of a handful of female designers. Even if you don’t care about golf, Christine has a lot to say about acceptance and inclusion. There’s something for everyone. I release the following post regarding #CHI2024, #whyCHI, and any other academic conference planning to remain in Hawai'i in this or any other year. May this discomfort lead us to new knowledge and renewed action.

Fractal Seeds

A beautiful celebration of Brian McBride by Paul Gough on 2ser. Stars of the Lid have long been a go-to of mine, somehow remaining distinct and at times devastating within a genre that often melts into homogeneity. Vale.
