My day job is a transportation librarian at a research institute at a large public university.
I see myself as an academic worker and unionist working to protect the public good.
I think it is the professional duty of library workers to make information and data accessible for all, and not to align with corporate interests.
I'm deeply concerned about the existential threat of climate collapse and a member of the radical bike lobby.
I'm also a letterpress printer and college radio DJ.

Me starting to edit this podcast: I should totally start a #transportation podcast!

Me finishing the rough edit of this podcast: Making a podcast is a lot of work. No thanks!

And yet... I still want to start a podcast.

Wednesday #Berkekey #faculty (and #librarians) unite in solidarity with UAW workers. See you at the #Campanile. #UAWonStrike #fairUCnow #UCAFT #CUCFA
It's Saturday night and I'm reading #HEERA - I know how to live! And that is reading CA #LaborLaw to be ready to combat misinformation about #UAWonStrike for #FairUCNow as they roll into week 3.
I just cataloged a report about #transportation accessibility and the LCSH were about accessibility for people with disabilities, when transportation planning has a somewhat different (and more encompassing) definition. Keywords make it hard to make such distinctions.
Following up on yesterday's #maps fools errand - here's a map that would be great to have a shapefile of. I can download the JPG or TIFF. And by me, I mean the researcher I'm working with.

Look, I recognize this question is asking for the world basically, but PDFs aren't useful data, but these maps exist!
Ridiculous question: Is there an easy way to convert PDF #maps to #shapefiles? I'm still trying to figure out a way to get a shapefile of the US highway system circa 1975. #GIS

Look in my replies - I stand corrected.

Reich said he's "100 percent behind those striking at the University of California" 3 days ago... 5 days into the strike for #FairUCNow.

That's really taking a position on the working conditions of grad students, researchers, and post docs.

For all of his talk about big corporations taking advantage of workers and the need for unions, Robert Reich is silent about #AcademicWorkers, especially #UAWonStrike for #FairUCNow - where he works.
