I haven’t been on this app in a very long time, so I’m not sure I’m doing this right, but please read this great thread by @cricketcrocker about misleading jargon in med bio. https://spore.social/@cricketcrocker/111341761552293326

So...this is misinformation (nobody is intending to mislead others, but it still is). Remember--it's dangerous to boost without caveats. This article IS NOT REPORTING that we know anything about how to know whether a currently healthy person will get long covid. The headline "Biomarker discovery boosts long covid prediction accuracy to 78.5%" would make you think it was, though, right? Let's talk about this. #covid19 #longCovid https://aus.social/@DenisCOVIDinfoguy/111339331281658508

Happy #caturday, Mastodon peeps, I’m going to try and spend more time over here; will probably move to a new instance soon. Just checking in for now.
#Mastodon has a LONG way to go to on Black #inclusivity. This is surprising because it’s appropriately focused on #accessibility and #LGBTQ+ inclusivity. We all need to uplift #BlackMastodon in every way we can. This will make Mastodon better and create a sanctuary for the Black community. Call out, fight, and report all micro-aggressions/racism witnessed here. Boost posts/accounts of Black Mastodonians. Use your #privilege to be a voice. This is our #responsibility. We’re #StrongerTogether.

I can't help but notice many toots from helpful newbies encouraging you to support the Mastodon Patreon.

It's fine to do that but understand it goes to just two big instances and the official Mastodon dev team.

It does NOT trickle down to YOUR instance. If you want to support your server, donate to it directly. Nearly all the costs of the explosive growth of the past few weeks is borne by local instances.

Mastodon is decentralized. There is no Mastodon Inc. This is not Twitter.

Anyone got the bandwidth to help me troubleshoot my migration to another instance? I've set up my new account there ([email protected]) I think? But when I go to create an alias back to this one, it says this account ([email protected]) "could not be found."
Alright, after three tries, it seems mastodon.online isn't able to import my following list from #fedifinder. For this and other reasons (I'm hearing it's slow), I'm going to try and move to another instance. Watch this space.
Trying out the Toot! app and a bit confused about two things: 1) there doesn’t seem to be a tab for searching or browsing hashtags etc., 2) what does this gizmo do?

If you want to see Mastodon at its best, strongly recommend these options:

Android - Use apps Tusky or Fedilab

iPhone/iPad - Use apps Metatext or Toot!

💻 Computers - Log in through your server's website

Mastodon was designed for websites and third party apps. These are *still* the best ways to use Mastodon!

(Official app exists because new people were only looking for an official app in app stores, and giving up when they didn't find one. You don't need to use it!)

What does “these are the posts gaining traction in your corner of mastodon” mean? It’s not the same thing as my home timeline (because it’s mostly people I don’t follow) and it’s not just toots on my instance. Is it some kind of trending toots thing?
