Moved to rural central Virginia this year after 18 years in Northern Virginia just outside of Washington, DC. A software engineer but transitioning to farming as I contemplate my retirement in about 10 years or so. Going to grow tea, rice, lavender and other crops. Going to use the rice to brew rice beer and wine, the Lavender to blend in with the tea and beer. Tea takes 3-4 years before I can pick, just planting seeds now. Other interests: hiking, running and traveling.

@LizinNorfolk πŸ˜€ Yes, it is. My greenhouses are supposed to arrive in Norfolk port this weekend in 2 containers from China. Small world.
Thanks for the follow.
35000 seeds from Nepal arrived today after clearing Nepali Plant quarantine, customs and USDA inspection. Me and mom will be starting them in the basement in the next 2 weeks and then transfer them to greenhouses in March #teafarmer #ricefarmer #ricebeer #farmer #brewer
@Seedling Nice. It was rainy most of the morning here. Stayed inside πŸ˜€

Hi. It would help me a lot if I could get a HEAP of responses to this poll. The goal is to get a decent enough sample so results are predictive of the wider user-base right now. I dislike asking for boosts but this is SCIENCE... or something. (Thanks.)

How do you use Mastodon MOST of the time?

On a phone, or other touch screen device?

OR

On a device with a keyboard like a laptop or desktop computer?

(If it's half and half choose the middle option.)

I have a wide variety of interests, which might irk some of my followers. I’m just as likely to boost something about US politics or civil rights/social justice, the fall of Rome, a random book I read, as I am something about any number of languages, KPop culture, etc.

The majority of my posts have been boosts to new people, paying forward the kindness extended to me when I got here. Don’t feel bad if you feel the need to mute me.

@houseofwyn sweet. I hope you do well next season. I will keep you posted on my trials πŸ˜€
@houseofwyn I think I am in zone 7a. I used these seeds: https://seedbarn.com/products/certified-rex-rice-seed-5-lbs?variant=12542030872676&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_campaign=gs-2018-11-18&utm_source=google&utm_medium=smart_campaign They came up ok but I planted in August as I just moved to the country after living outside Washington, DC for 18 years. The seeds were good but I think I need short grain rice for brewing and can't seem to find any certified short grain seeds. Might have to try some brown rice next. I will try the bucket method inside the house as an experiment. Thanks for the idea
Certified Rex Rice Seed - 5 Lbs.

@houseofwyn oh wow. Plum wine sounds yummy. Thanks for your wishes. I planted rice too late this year. Will try again in summer. What do you reckon went wrong with bucket rice ?
I'm a city tea farmer and this past summer was my first real harvest. I didn't pick enough to get through until next year but it seemed like such hard work at the time. Next year I'll do better. #tea #cameliasinensis #cityfarming #crops

At the end of the path to Cuckmere Haven in Sussex, UK, where the river meets the sea.

I always follow back, and really appreciate and follow boosters
