#intro #introduction hi, I am a new farmer trying my hand at rice, lavender and tea. I hope to brew the rice into beer and wine and blend it with tea, lavender and other plants I might grow. My farm is in Rockbridge County, Virginia and it is on a hill. I hope to terrace it like in the Himalayas. #smallfarmer #homebrewer #terracefarming #sake #saketea
@jungachai I tried to grow rice in food safe buckets but was not successful. Would be amazing to have actual land to try it on. I hope it works out well for you. I used to have plum trees and made some good plum wine once.
@houseofwyn oh wow. Plum wine sounds yummy. Thanks for your wishes. I planted rice too late this year. Will try again in summer. What do you reckon went wrong with bucket rice ?
@jungachai I'm pretty sure it was being too late in planting too. I might also not be in a good region for growing it. I think I'm 7 or 8.
@houseofwyn I think I am in zone 7a. I used these seeds: https://seedbarn.com/products/certified-rex-rice-seed-5-lbs?variant=12542030872676&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_campaign=gs-2018-11-18&utm_source=google&utm_medium=smart_campaign They came up ok but I planted in August as I just moved to the country after living outside Washington, DC for 18 years. The seeds were good but I think I need short grain rice for brewing and can't seem to find any certified short grain seeds. Might have to try some brown rice next. I will try the bucket method inside the house as an experiment. Thanks for the idea
Certified Rex Rice Seed - 5 Lbs.

@jungachai I was trying to grow black rice. I may also have better luck with another type.
@houseofwyn sweet. I hope you do well next season. I will keep you posted on my trials 😀
