I'm old enough to remember the SCOTUS saying Biden didn't have power to waive student debt, despite explicit legislation to do just that.

Yet Trump can mass fire civil servants, shut down Congressionally mandated bodies and send refugees to dangerous third countries without any due process.

Another "this is fine" moment in the burning ruins of America's former democracy.

I'm blessed to live in Maryland where every single elected official who represents me is a Democrat, except for the president and vice-president of the United States (who did not win Maryland and did not expect to).

Calling my electeds won't make any difference.

What can I do?

@Professor_Stevens @jaykuo You should ask your reps for further exercise of their oversight authority. They need to show up in person, as well as all levels of oversight request. And if it continues to be rebuffed they need to figure out ways to keep pressing in different ways: budget and spending reports, subpoenas to private vendors at every level possible.

My electeds are already doing these things. The problem, when you live in a deep-blue district like I do, is that I have no leverage over anyone who needs to be levered. The electeds who need to be pressed to take new or different action are all elsewhere.

I suppose I SHOULD express my thanks for that what mine are doing. I was an elected once. A few "thank yous" do help keep your energy level high.
