Hi ho, I'm John. I'm a game developer from way back in the heyday. I wrote some games that sold well. I edited some books that sold poorly. I wrote a couple-hundred book reviews for Gamedev.net. And I taught game development to kids for a couple of years.

Nowadays I'm living in middle-of-nowhere Texas with my wife. I still do some development stuff, but it's pretty casual.

I have a far more stupid "fun" mastodon account at dobbs.town. Follow me there for non-technical stuff.

Just playing around, seeing if I can wire up all this stuff in HaxeFlixel. Here I'm rendering an LDtk "world" along with some HaxeUI components and a game sprite that I animated in Spine quite some time ago.

Everybody's working and animating nicely on the native and HTML5 target. The native version isn't getting events from the gamepad, but I suspect there's some MacOS witchery that's gotta be done. HTML5 has its own gamepad API's, and that's working fine.

Gnosferatu The Gnightmare Gnome wishes you all a happy friday!

After I de-listed the couple of remaining Android games I had on Google, I started receiving these emails.

So, what's the scam? Is it that it's easier to sell scammy apps if your developer account wasn't created very recently?

My brain still works in Booch Notation #OldSchool

Oooh, one game company wrote a pack of FIFTY games. That's quite an accomplishment!

At my wife's civil engineering conference, I think I found the new #godot merch. NODES EVERYWHERE!

Me : It was still listed?

http://angriestprogrammer.com has been quietly parked for a year now.

The domain is expiring in about a week if anyone wants the name.

Oh yay, I've earned a scintilla of #slack

After 14 years, my book publisher is going to stop snail-mailing me quarterly statements reminding me that my books didn't cover the advance and never will.

Now they're just gonna send me quarterly emails, which are far easier to ignore.

Quick sketch of a "rules database" showing the rules for a Purplefruit (always increases player's strength) and a Flying Purplefruit (hides and gives no strength if your weapon has charges).

I suppose I could use something like CastleDB or Depot for a fancier interface, but this is pretty easy to read.

...and parse :)
