A very stark realization since switching to #EV is how absolutely filthy the oil cars are.

Yet they get a pass. We are so used to these things that can kill us with their fumes alone. We even park them in their attached garages! Never again.

Judge orders Alligator Alcatraz shut down in 60 days, says no more new detainees.

"U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams, in her 82-page ruling, prohibited the state and federal govts from bringing additional detainees to the detention center, which has drawn mass protests. She also stopped any expansion of the detention facility, including adding industrial lighting or erecting any new buildings, such as tents or dormitories."

in the US when middle class people owned their own homes, sure -- & i still cut my own lawn -- but people don't take the same pride in their homes when it's just a rental that will be forgotten next year when they've moved on

Sure, people treat rental properties differently than what they own.

I notice though that US home ownership has been in the 60% to 70% range for the last fifty years; it's fluctuated, but doesn't seem to have changed substantially: https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/RHORUSQ156N

Probably that's not accurate where you live.

definitely not accurate here, i live in the greater New Orleans area, Hurricane Katrina and AirBnB have wreaked havoc on lower income home ownership (lower & middle income home owners are much more likely to do their own lawn & gardens than wealthier people, who call ordering others around to be gardening)

@DukeDuke Same in Germany. Before I retired, at least half of our staff of the health clinic I worked for, was migrants - from all over the world - and we still had not enough to fill our shifts without overtime for everyone.
When I look around, all service jobs, caretaking/nursing, education, tourism, lots of craftsmen & women, we wouldn't be able to manage without people coming from other countries. Lots of EU, but also non-EU nations. We would have total chaos without migration!
