I hope that Amy Johnson Crow will continue the "52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks" challenge in 2023!

In the meantime, this week's theme is "Wrong Side of the Law." I need to do more research on an ancestor of mine who was arrested for swearing in Lee, Massachusetts in the 1700s. I have no idea what he said, but I'm quite curious!

@jmasonwritedit Nice document, but not a marriage license - not a thing in Scotland! It's a certificate of the proclamation of banns, after they were called on three successive Sundays as a form of pre-publication (the alternative was a marriage notice, now the only form). Amazing what unexpectedly flies out of envelopes sometimes. I believe this is the marriage license for my great-great grandparents, who married in Scotland on June 13, 1873. I have the address of their wedding location, which was the bride's home, and looked it up on Google Earth. Looks like a very industrial area now.

The neighborhood I grew up in was full of kids - going to the bus stop, playing spud and hide and seek, building forts, trick or treating. Today, we all saw each other again at the wake for one of our own. As the cliche goes - it feels like yesterday. But it was, wasn’t it?
