Wrote up something explaining just why Elon's latest actions on Twitter were so problematic. It's not so much the final decisions (even as those are bad), but the process that shows his lack of concern about anything other than himself. That's no way to do content moderation.

This is the first in a series of releases that implement support for new Mastodon features. More will come in the near future, but this version offers:

* Full support for all new types of notifications in Mastodon 4.0, including admin notifications.
* Updated to use more modern versions of various iOS functionality. As a result, however, the minimum supported iOS version is now 13.
* Bugfixes.

Eventually any site, app whatever has a Sell Out Moment. They get bought by a big established corp, they go IPO, something. There is an "Exit". If you accept VC money, you are *promising* that Exit day is coming and it will be *big*.

Idle observation: a couple of weeks ago a pretty high % of posts here were about how birdsite sucks; often a bitter landing at how the bird site made the move necessary.

Now most of the posts here are about more substantive things.

But the *tweets* there now! So many folks deeply, deeply bitter about folks leaving for mastodon. A curious inversion, and how furious at people leaving!

The reason seems simple enough tho. Folks see it in their TL, but too heavily invested to move yet

When governments fund biomedical R&D, the contractual provisions in the funding agreement are important, as regard's the public's rights in the outcomes. These contracts should be public.

Transparency is even more important when core public interest clauses are not standardized.
