There’s no public commons on the web. It’s a race to the bottom, and the bottom is gross. You want me to log in to read? I think I simply will not read.

"Let them eat CAIC!"

The panel tasked with reviewing the emissions reduction fund - many of whom have connections to the industry that they are supposed to be "independently" reviewing - has baselessly ignored mountains of substantive evidence that Australia's offsets scheme is broken. Recommends tinkering with the governance arrangements instead of dealing with real problems.

Slow clap.

Chubb review recommends new integrity body for Australian carbon credits scheme

Review dismissed claims the current system lacks integrity and is not delivering real cuts in emissions

Seriously, the fact that I can wake up this morning, decide that I want to read the original Cosmac Elf article in the August 1976 Popular Electronics and Internet Archive makes that possible in 2 minutes is the future we were promised and need to appreciate.
EU is commendably imposing standards for battery materials inc human rights, water pollution, recycling, CO2 footprint.
Imagine if they held fossil fuels to the same standard?
T&E:
"But while the regulation will apply to key raw minerals such as lithium, nickel, cobalt and graphite, T&E said all raw materials, including fossil fuels, should be held to the same standards under a new due diligence law that the EU will finalise in the coming months."

EU passes law to make electric car batteries cleaner

Battery producers will face tougher environmental and due diligence standards if they want to sell in the European market.

Or you could say the gas industry privatised a publicly owned asset, gouged the public for it, profiteered from a war and then paid zero tax for the privilege. http://www.afr.com/business/energy/near-nationalisation-shock-gas-market-changes-revealed-20221210-p5c5b6?btis
Energy crisis: Shock gas market changes revealed

The federal government will seek to take permanent control of prices when it introduces new legislation on Thursday that critics say could cause blackouts.

If you protest against the worsening climate disaster, you are punished much harder than if you perform the same actions for other reasons. It’s like those in power have a bad conscience, they know they are failing and angrily lash out against those holding up a mirror to them.

Saying not to bother with the favourite button on mastodon because it doesn't affect any algorithm is like saying not to say thank you to someone because no one else will hear.

Stop thinking in those old social media ways of engagement and visibility and algorithms and reach and audience and start thinking about being social.

And BOOST! It's how you saw this, probably!

A favourite is a nice thanks, a boost lets everyone else discover the great thing you discovered too!

As right-wing extremists are re-platformed everywhere from Twitter to Mar-a-Lago, it’s more important than ever that we hold our journalists, researchers, & others to high standards of accountability when it comes to reporting on extremism and extremists. We need journalists who will tell us the truth, not stake out a position in the middle of two unequal sides. I keep coming back to this quote about reporting on the weather, but it was missing something — so I modified it to make it complete.

HELP NEEDED: Please help me help everyone find Australian #climate and #energy advocates, communicators and educators on this hairy elephant app.

Can you please

1. Boost this post (boosting is just the mastodon name for a retweet)?
2. Reply with the full @username@server
handle for everyone you know who fits that category?

This way lots of people can add to the list, so I can get a reasonably full one. As ever in this space, it'd be great to avoid the list being all white men so if you can turn your mind to that, it'd be wonderful.

Like Santa, I'm making a list and checking it twice. I'll also make it public.
