Ow...

My "trying this" over the years with cross country skis is NOTHING like the real, skinny, excessively slippery skate skis. One slip/fall at start, then a lot of clumsy flailing with brief, ever so brief, moments of maybe getting it. Arms and shoulders are pretty sore now.

Going to try skate skiing today. I've tried mimicking the technique with longer/clunkier nordic skis, but never with all of the right gear. This should be interesting.

Found this on YT, doesn't his voice sound familiar? (One minute physics?)

Got out for a #fatbike ride. Some trails smoothly groomed and then there was this one, frozen crunch that β€œusually” supported bike/rider weight, until it didn’t. πŸ˜‚

It's clever in that the recipient is more likely to be expecting an answer, although not limiting how far back it goes may negate that advantage. And they support different languages, so far English & Deutsch.
Going through company's old support account and seeing new approaches for phishing/hacks. The latest one does a reply to an old email the user forgot to answer. So a support request from 2020 or 2018 comes back in with an attachment and some vague "recent summary at our office" note. Totally doesn't match the age of user or content of original message, but I can't imagine that a little AI work will be fixing that up some day soon.
I am 100% not shitting you when I say scientists named mastodons after their teeth which they thought looked like nipples. β€œMastos” as in breast. β€œodont” as in tooth.
We’re on a website that, in Greek, literally means β€œBooby Tooth.”

Thanks for 500 Mastadon followers!!

Coming up: weekly new trail reviews from NH, then CA. Things get a little slower around here in the winter months.

We're also branching out with a new MA rail trail map and trail reviews starting in the new year. They'll be published on Trailspotting as usual, but we also just created the Massachusetts Rail Trail group on Facebook for anyone interested .. https://www.facebook.com/groups/massrailtrails

We're never sure "how much snow is too much". This storm left about 20" and originally this week's forecast was for another foot. Now it's a little more snow, then rain and 50's Friday. Which you'd think would melt it, but snow is like a sponge up to a certain point and just as likely to turn into a heavier, frozen block that'll be impossible to remove. Probably be clearing some today.
Here's a couple photos of the kid's first adventure onto roof 8 years ago.
