@cfiesler it was really confusing picking out an instance from a cold start. I still don’t understand how to find instances, but I do like that hashtags seem to have a stronger purpose on this platform re: discovery. Someone in this thread said the social instance is like a major airport hub, and that feels right. But I also want to be tied to an instance that will not disappear in the near term. It’s going to take some poking around to figure it all out.

@groceryheist @glassbottommeg I’ve tried so many experiments around this and find that news is still right or left, not apolitical or approaching both sides without bias in one piece. The closest you get for American news is BBC. Ironic. I know. When news is more opinion than fact, how do we save that? When social is mis/disinformation, how do we find truth? I have to believe alt platforms like this can make a positive impact.

@groceryheist @glassbottommeg algorithms without capitalism and without bias to serve what you’re most likely to engage with so you can be served more ads… that’s interesting. We need more editorial fact-checked news, though. Even if we don’t agree with all of it. Bias needs to be removed from news.

@glassbottommeg I’m a digital marketer. You’re right. If it’s free, the user is the product. Apple is about to make big moves to make the phone owner the product for ads, too.
