Spreading this like a mastodon chain letter…

The vicious “groomers” campaign against public school teachers and the LGBTQ community has “deflected from the massive sexual abuse scandals that have plagued Christian institutions, including the Southern Baptist Convention, the Catholic Church, and the Mormon Church. ‘Annual surveys from [Christian Ministry Resources] suggest that in recent years, the pace of child-abuse allegations against American churches has averaged 70 a week,” according to PennLive.’”

If you ever had a vaccine, injection or surgery, you’re indebted to the ancient & wondrous horseshoe crab.

Its blue blood contains Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) which clumps at contact with bacterial toxins. Animals are caught for their blood to test sterility of medical equipment & injections.

Unfortunately the harvest is unsustainable & populations are in decline. An effective synthetic substitute has been around for 2 decades & we just need the biomedical industry to switch. #SharedPlanet

#introduction I’m newly arrived from Birdland and thrilled at the fresh universe of Mastodon. I’m curblessed with wide curiosity about the history of the American South (especially race relations), American baseball history, US culture of the 1960s into the 70s, sabermetrics, Retrosheet, board and dice games, View-Master, Daredevil and Doctor Strange, birds and birdwatching, Faulkner and Modiano, and Columbo. . .
@hiddenhistoryRI I wonder if you have any knowledge about Deep South construction (Mississippi specifically) of public buildings like the capitol or governor’s mansion using the enslaved? I’ve asked the MS Dept of Archives and History but never gotten an answer.
