Joan Didion
She pulls *no* punches in her writing. The White Album and Slouching Towards Bethlehem are journalistic behemoths.
My old rule was read one physical book and one audiobook at one time, but I am 6 books deep and they’re all good:
The War Below by Ernest Scheyder about mining in America
The Invention of Air by Steve Johnson about Joseph Priestly
The Golden Thread by Ravi Somaiya about the death of Dag Hammarskjold
Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell (started in April!)
The Town that Food Saved by Ben Hewitt about a local agriculture movement
Yes, Chef a memoir by chef Marcus Samuelsson
I left Mastodon because it is hard for me to break free of current social media services. I told myself that I couldn’t leave because it took me a long time to build my ‘network’. In truth, however, it was the posts giving me that dopamine hit. I could fawn over a cute puppy and get enraged over a social injustice all within the span of a minute. Mastodon doesn’t seem to have that same emotional manipulation that I clearly feed off.
But I’m back. And want to talk about books 📚 #bookstodon
